Actonel and Side Effects

I took my first dose of Actonel this past Sunday (once a week dose). By Sunday night I was feeling terrible. After taking Actonel I started to getting nausea. After a few hours I began to get terrible back pain, along with chest pain and a "hard" beating heart. This was accompanied by stronger nausea, vomitting, and upset stomache. I had to take a pain killer for the pain and phenergan (sp?) for the nausea before I could even think about sleep. The next day I started off a little sore but by night fall I am hurting so bad I can hardly stand up and walk. My body is hurting so bad, and pain killer isnt helping and I'm afraid to take a lot due to surpressed breathing. I'm having some joint and terrible bone pain (mostly back and chest), enough it is effecting my breathing and ability to cough. It hurts extremely bad to cough and painful to take regular to deep breaths so I keep catching myself breathing very shallow. Which isnt good for someone with CF. As of right now, it hurts to get out of a chair by myself (my mom has to help) and I cant even stand straight up, if I do it seems like my breath is cut off. Has anyone every experianced anything like this with Actonel or similar medication? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,
My husband w/cf recently started taking actonel. He took Fosamax in the past but had a lot of pain which he assumed was from the Fosamax so his doctor switched him to Actonel. So far he is tolerating it very well. One thing to be sure of, is that you follow the instructions. You have to take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, with about 6-8 oz. of water. You have to remain sitting up or standing and no eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes or you can get upset stomach and stuff. I would contact your doctor if you haven't already and let him know of your reaction and get his opinion on this! Good luck, I hope you can get some relief and find a med that will work for you. :)

This happened me when i was on fosomax. I was in unreal pain i couldnt move for three days after taking it.every bone in my body ached but the doctors changed me to actonel and no problems thank god. there is two type the once a day which is 5mg and the once a week which is 35. if your on the once a day if you switched to once a week at least you would only have to go through the side effects once.22/m/Ireland
