Acupuncture or other methods of healing?

Has anyone ever tried acupuncture as an alternative medicine to help with sinus symptoms, lung infections, asthma, and other CF related problems? For those who have, do you think it has worked? I've also read about Reiki, chiropractic, meditation, yoga, reflexology, and other forms of alternative healing that would help with CF. For those who have tried many forms of alternate healing, what has worked the best? I guess I'm looking for more ways to conquer this disease. I wish someone could just put me upside down and shake all the goodies out of me. Wouldn't that be great!

I have done massage therapy and chiropractic care. The chiropractic was for my back being out, but it ended up helping many areas including my lungs & sinuses. The massage helps with the muscles which in turn opens up my airways in my lungs. Havent had the courage to try accupuncture, but I know many people that have tried it for several reasons and were pleased. Things from chronic pain to sleep depervation. We have a few people on here that have tried other things so hopefully you will here from them soon.

I read an article maybe about a year ago correlating massaging with increased health for young people w/CF. Ever since I read that article, I've wondered if I could swindle my insurance company into paying for my own masseuse! I've done yoga, but not religiously enough to know if it helped. Good luck and keep us posted!

Hiya. I do chiropractic, acupuncture, tea pills and herbal suppletments. I have been doing acupunture for about two years now, and for the last year I have been infection free. I have gotten a few colds/viruses and with acupuncture treatments and Good tea pills, I kicked them without them moving to my chest or sinuses as an infection. *knock on wood* Now, granted, I am a "Mild" case, and I do other things to prevent infections (Using a new hand towel in the bathroom every use, wearing face masks in confinded public places, crazy hand sanitizer use) but I know that I am feeling better all around, not just in the lung area. The beautiful thing about acupuncture is, that there are multiple phlegm points designed to keep phlegm from sticking in your body, and also many tea pills that are mucus clearing. It has been a wonderful part of all encompassing methods for staying healthy. My chiropractic care usually consists of keeping my rib cage from locking up from coughing (even with how little I do, the times when I have coughed so hard, my back is not so happy and gets angry with just coughing from the HS) and other health issues I have with my spine and joints.

I would highly recommend trying it. It can't hurt you, and if it makes you feel better, Score! I am a great believer in chinese medicine; they've been working with ailments many a century before "western medicine" came along, and it is far closer to what the body is designed to need than western medicine. This does not mean I don't do my breathing treatments as per doctors orders. I believe in both, use both, and wouldn't have it any other way.

I have an adult friend who has CF, and he told me just last week that he started seeing a chiropractor and that it has helped him tremendously! He said that it has really helped in the chest area. That was the first time I had ever heard of that, and was very impressed.
And another friend was saying last night that she sees a chiropracto and has accupuntcure for her sinuses that always seemed clogged up, and ever since then, she has had little sinus issues. She doesn't have CF, just bad sinus' that have needed several surgeries.
This is so interesting to me to hear it here too!

I'm glad to hear about all the great feedback about acupuncture and other methods of healing. After a night of coughing, I've decided to treat myself to some pampering today. I'm getting a swedish massage for the first time today including 15 minutes of reflexology which is pressure applied to the feet and hands that helps with oxygen and fueling the body into a less stressful state. It all sounds wonderful. At the place that I am going to today they also offer acupuncture on Mondays so I will definitely have to check that out.

JazzysMom, one of my good friends is studying to be a chiropractic doctor and is in grad school now. He swears by it.

Dreamer, that would be nice if insurance would cover it. I would love that.

Fruity, what type of tea pills do you take? I try to drink a hot cup of tea everyday with lemon juice and honey. It makes me feel more relaxed. There is a tea store called Teavanna that has delicious herbal teas. The website is www.teavana.com. I always get the "To Life" tea its supposed to help with disease and ailments. I'm hoping for the money I have spent there it does something hehe.

Risa, during the emotional freedom technique of acupuncture does it hurt when they tap along the acupressure end points? By the way the advice that you gave me in a past post to buy biotene for my thrush has worked wonders for me. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">Thanks to you and Biotene no more thrush! yeay!
