My son Trevor was in the 75th percentile when he was diagnosed. He is now 11 months and 19lbs and has dropped down to the 25th percentile. He usually gets baby food for breakfast, lunch and usually dinner. He does great with the baby food and I use the Beach Nut, it is about 120 cals a jar. He gets at least one whole jar. If he doesn't finish the baby food, I make him a bottle. He is still getting a bottle in the morning and at night. We are adding an extra scoop of formula to every bottle as well as adding 1 tsp of olive oil to his baby food. He uses a sippy cup during the day, but i put formula in it. I didn't know if there was anything else we can do. I read the pudding recipes for extra cals, but is it ok to give him all that sugar??...Any advice?

Hi Katie,

My daughter was a horrible eater at that age. She hated baby food, so we never went to that. By 11 months they are ready for basic table food, but Alyssa wasn't interested in that much either. Instead I made soft things that I could add heavy cream and butter to. Canned soups were really great, especially ones with soft chunks of veggies, meatballs, pasta or potato. I'd add a little butter, cream and/or parmasean cheese and she LOVED it!!! CF kids have a natural interest in salty things, and she just took to all the soups. She still loves a big bowl of broccoli cheddar or chicken noodle soup. I'd think that something like this would be better than a sugary pudding at this age.

Hope this helps!!

Hi. We are only a few months ahead of you in this game. I too added the oil to the baby food. I gave Maggie Earth's Best Organic baby food which seemed to have more calories and fat than the others. She loved their Tender Beef and Spinach which has 7 grams of fat I think. She also loved and still loves avocado bits with salt on them. She dropped percentiles at that age as well. Our doctor said it was due to the switch of adding food to the diet. It takes some time to figure out. Maggie dropped from about 60th% to 30th but bounced back and has been holding around 50th. Good Luck and hang in there.

Aidan was a terrible eater at about that age. He only ate few things and hated baby food. I added heavy whipping cream to EVERYTHING and it worked wonders. He gained despite eating very little....At age 5 he now weighs 66 pounds and is strong as an ox!

With DS, I found things he liked and stuck with them. Even if it meant baby food meats doctored up with added calories for every meal.

Cream and vanilla nestle's quik powder added to his bottles. Butter, cream, oil, salt added to baby food. Single serving soups, stews and pasta dishes ground up -- added a dash of olive oil. Spagettios, Mac & Cheese, yo-baby yogurt.
