Adding extra fat in diet

I add extra fat in my daughters diet, as i have been asked to by her doctors ever since she was 8wks old. She seems to be gaining good weight, but even i sometimes think this can't be too good for them. I guess if the doc's say it is, then there's no harm.

Thank's to everyone for your replies. I am still going to keep adding the fats, i was just curious as to how many of you do it on a daily basis.

Thanks again

Definately daily. Remember as well that there are different types of fats and if we are going to pack our kids food with them, they might as well be the good ones. Yep I am talking about Omega 3. Omega 3 and 6 work best when taken in equal proportions - normal everday fatty foods tend to usually contain almost always Omega 6 so look specifically for Omega 3 fats in food and you should automatically get the right balance. I do this by giving Mikayla fish which is high is Omega 3 and add the garlic butter etc to it. When Omega 6 is taken in excess without the balance of Omega 3 it can have a negitive effect on the body.

I will also buy butter/margarine that is high in Omega 3 - you can also buyu bread that states it is high in Omega 3. Even though we do have to give our kids a diet that would normally be harmful to a healthy childs body, doesn't mean we can't do it in an educated way.

You should try adding sour cream to your mashed potatos as well. Very good!

I have found that dairy is the best way for me to put on some weight and add calories and fat into my diet. I am a cheese-a-holic, i just love cheese and can't seem to get anough of it. I love to sit and eat ricotta cheese right out of the container<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Cheese is very fattening and has helped me gain back weight i have lost when sick ,and then maintain it when i am well.

I would say that if weight gain isn't an issue for your child then keep on doing what you are doing - it's working! I know that since my daughter was diagnosed we don't hold back on the icecream shakes or "blizzards" from Dairy Queen. She also loves cheese of any kind and I swear she must eat a bag of pretzels daily!
