ADEKs AND prenatal vitamins

Hi,

I just have a quick question for you all....

Before and during your pregnancy, did you supplement your ADEKs with prenatal vitamins? Is it contraindicated to do that? Even our ADEKs contain folic acid, so I'm thinking additional vitamins won't be necessary. I'm just not sure how much of the vitamins in ADEKs are just to get us up to a baseline. So are prenatals necessary?

Thanks,
Leah 26 w/CF, mom to non-biological son, attempting to get pregnant VERY soon

From what I remember reading, pwcf need 1-2 times the rec. dosage. How much folic acid is in the ADEKs? I don't take them, I take other stuff and my vitamin levels are always normal. I take a regular multi vitamin, 800 mg of folic acid, 600-800 mg of magnesium, 1000 mg of calcium, vit E, a B 100 complex, an A and D vitamin and I can't remember what else without going to my kitchen.

My main concern for you is that you're absorbing enough folic acid. i think with all my vitamins combined I get about 1.2 grams of folic acid a day. When I was pregnant with Logan my genetic councilor prescribed a 1 g folic pill for me.

My infertility doctor just had me add a folic acid pill to my regular cf vitamins (deals with a lot of cf patients) and my high risk ob told me that my cf vitamins were fine- I never took a prenatal vitamin. But, I was pan. sufficient when I was pregnant (and still am for the most part). I think my cf vitamins had 50% of the rda for folic acid.
