ADEKs AND prenatal vitamins

the reason they make prenatals is often because reg multivitamions have too much vitamin A in them to be safe for pregnancy - I would think ADEKS might have even more vit. A which would mean mixing the two might really put you over the top - check with your OB!

Check your vitamin levels to be sure you are not overdosing on vitamin A for sure. I took one prenatal, one ADEK and extra folic acid every single day. But that is what I needed according to my bloodwork. It varies depending on the CF patient.

Hi Tara, Thanks for the info. I think I will ask to have all my vitamin levels checked. I had most of them done at my last clinic appointment, so hopefully there won't be many more to do. Thanks.

I went off ADEKs upon conception because the A in it is retinols (synthetic Vitamin A). Beta carotene is fine but the retinols are bad (google it to learn more). I drink a ton of milk so have no probs with D intake, I took Perfect Prenatal by New Chapter and also their Vitamin E and a rx'ed K. For me it wasn't worth the risk.

I was on so many medicines that by focusing on providing healthy vitamins to my body and baby I could forgive myself for all the meds I was exposing him to.

My cf doctor advised that I stay on ADEKs. Now that I'm onto "quality" food derived vitamins I don't know that I can go back.
