ADHD

Hi everyone!
Just curious how many of you parents have dealt with their CFer having ADHD? DS is not formerly diagnosed but his older brother has been (along with other things including Tourette Syndrome) and he is starting to exhibit a lot of the same ADHD symptoms along with a few tics.
Brother has been on meds and things are definitely better but whenever I talk to hubby about getting DS (the one with CF) on meds he is very reluctant to even talk about it. He is most nervous because he is already taking meds for the CF and worries about too many meds.
My nervousness is mostly about the weight issue. Our oldest does not have the same appetite he used to and if that happened to our CFer we may be in trouble.
Has anyone had to deal with this with their CF child? If so, have you found any meds where they keep their appetite?
Again, he has not yet been diagnosed and therefore it is not an immediate issue. Just wanting to get all the info I can.
Thanks in advance!

Hi shannon. I have CF and my husband has ADD. Hubby has next to no appetite on his meds. If he werent reminded to eat, he probably wouldnt. So I would say that's a valid concern for your youngest son. If I remember correctly, when my hubby was on wellbutrin about 15 years ago, he ate much better, but had anger management issues. Wish I could be more help. What does your doc say? I'd be curious....

I went ahead and made an appointment at his regular ped's office for tomorrow. We will see what she says and then go from there and of course talk to CF team before starting anything. He is only 5 right now but I am truly worried about his socialization with school coming up for him this year.

It is possible... I'm drawing REALLY loose assumptions. That the deficit of S-Adensosylmethionine (SAMe) and Phosphotidylcholine may play a role in ADD/ADHD in the CF population. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15755840
