Adhesions

Well, I really DO have adhesions on the right side...This morning I was going through my normal routine...taking the dogs out, making coffee, packing Jake's lunch, and so on.

All of a sudden, I had the worst 'knife-stabbing' pain. It took the wind right out of me. Also, I felt 'pulling'. The FIRST thing I noticed was it was mostly right-sided with just a touch mid-center. Thus, the appendix was right-sided, and the colon was shifted from center to right. The SECOND thing I noticed was that this wasn't the first time that I have felt this terrible pain. I have had it before, but thankfully, only experience it maybe 3-4 times a year...Thank Goodness!!!

I managed to finish packing Jake's lunch and immediately sat in the kitchen chair doubled over in pain. He sat down and finished his coffee not noticing anything. I tend to keep things to myself whenever possible. He then walked to the door to leave, and I trailed behind him cringing with each step I took. I kissed him goodbye and sat for a couple more minutes. The pain was nearly intolerable. It seemed to get worse while I was sitting so I did the NEAR IMPOSSIBLE. I WALKED AROUND..

I started working through the pain, and it slowly started to subside. Within 1 hour, the pain was gone, but I had to use the bathroom. Not to throw up or anything but to actually poop. Sorry to be graphic...

This pain won't happen for months now. But it did assure me that I DO have adhesions on the right lower side. However, the left side left fine. No problem.

Does anyone know a 'natural' way to treat adhesions? Due to my burst appendix 14 years ago, I lost 3 feet of my colon. I nearly lost my life too...Surgery isn't an option for me because if the colon were 'bumped', I would end up with a bag for the rest of my life.

Any thoughts?

I have heard that deep tissue massage can help with adhesions, including abdominal adhesions, but you have to have a center with all the proper training, certification, etc. to have it done safely. It might be something that your doctor could look into for you. I heard about it being used with infertility treatment.

When mine got like that, rubbing, rubbing, rubbing would help, shifting positions would help, moving would help (not necessarily walking, but slowly rubbing and stretching and turning the best I could).

I've had 4 surgeries that included adhesion removal (I didn't mind the first set of adhesions I had, because I knew how to get them "unkinked", but they cleaned them out when I had my gallbladder out, and then I had emergency surgery because one of the new ones had blocked off my intestines, and the 3rd was endoscopic that my gyn did while he was in there zapping endometriosis...), so when I say "I feel your (adhesion) pain", I really do <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> . I hope you can get it stretched out and more comfortable somehow soon...ouch.

Oh, drinking something warm (like cocoa) sometimes gets things moving and past the bad spot, too.

Last thing a person wants is surgery, it shouldn't be ruled out. Over the past year and a half (about), I was constantly getting obstructed, and quite severe, not just constipation. Well, last time (end of November), the obstruction wouldn't pass through, and I was in extraordinary amount of pain. I ended up having to have surgery because when it finally did clear (in the hospital) there was an area of my small intestine that nothing was passing through very well (per the ct scan and x-rays). They ended up opening me up and found adhesions throughout my whole abdomen, part of my small intestine had so much adhesion that it was actually hard and flat. They cut out an enormous amount of scar tissue and hopefully it wont grow back again (this is my 3rd surgery for obstruction, had about 1/3 of my intestine removed at birth). The good news, I don't get obstructed as easily (at least to this point), but I am constantly in pain now. If my BM's are even mildly formed, I have a hard time eating because it hurts so much. It seems as though there is little to cope with the adhesions other than loose stools (probably TMI). Fortunately, or unfortunately, I have severe absorption problems so I am usually pretty loose.

I'm a massage therapist...I took a visceral massage course years ago. Specific to massage the organs and abdominal region as well as the lungs( that is really cool)!
I think it was through The Upledger Institute. You may be able to e mail them to find a therapist in your area who has taken the course... but they may not give out that info??? Look for a therapist advertising visceral massage!! If you're in Canada I may be able to help you find one?
