Adopting?

Has anyone ever heard of a person with CF and their husband or partner being able to adopt? My boyfriend and I want to have kids but I can't since I have already had a transplant and all my doctors say it will be too dangerous for me to carry a child.

It's kind of hard for me to imagine an adoption agency would give a child to a couple where one of them have a chronic terminal illness. Anyone have any information that would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Annie,

My husband and I have one adopted son and are in the process of trying to adopt again.

We were foster parents for awhile and that is how our son came to us as a newborn. With foster children, you never know if they will be adoptable or not.....it depends on the birthparents and if they are willing to work on their own issues in order to get them back.

We decided to go through an agency for a second child. We're waiting for a birthmom to choose us. I had to have a doctor sign that I was expected to live a normal life, (I'm doing well with FEV1 in the low 70s) but otherwise my illness is not listed for birthparents to see.

Still, I don't know why it matters as long as one of the couple is healthy. I know single people adopt. I think you need to call some agencies and see what they say.

I agree with that statement! ...I have no experience with this topic although, I have considered it myself and wondered the same thing since I'm also post transplant. I'm still very young so I have a while to decide.

My wife and I have adopted two children domestically, both were infants when we took them home.. The first agency did make a deal out of my CF requesting a letter from my doctor and health records. My doctor told them to fly a kite, that I was plenty healthy to parent. The second agency we used didn't care. Feel free to pm me is you have more questions.
