Hey,
I'm in a pulmonary rehab program and they gave me a flyer with (ahem) sex positions that are less stressful for people with comprimised lung function. Nice to know<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">
Any one interested in this info or sharing such info?

Actually that sounds very interesting. Often, more so lately, I find myself trying not to cough immediately after... and then leaning over the bed to hack for a few minutes once I've gotten back to my own side of the bed (I'm trying very hard to make this PG... you guys get my meaning, I'm sure). I'd be very interesting to see which positions are easier on those with respiratory problems. If you'd like to email the info, or just post it here, either way, I'd love to have it. <img src="i/expressions/rose.gif" border="0">

Yeah I got that same flyer! I don't think it really helps prevent having to cough stuff up (during or afterwards), because after all, sex involves heavier breathing and physical activity...however, the positions are helpful for preventing increased pressure on the chest (lung) area. Its fun! Like Kama Sutra for CFers!! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">

OK, but first:

"The following is some practical advice, which given the right ambiance - music, dinner, clothes <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">, and candlelight - will help you fully enjoy your sex life."

"<b>Be Creative.</b> Don't limit yourself to sexual intercourse. Take your time. Foreplay (ambiance, touching, massage) are equally as important."

"<b>Avoid anything that may aggravate your symptoms ,</b> such as perfumes, cigarettes and other strong-smelling products."

"As with all physical exercise, <b>use your short-acting bronchodilator</b> 20 to 30 minutes before having sex."

"I deally, do your <b>physiotherapy exercises to dislodge mucus prior to having sex.</b>"

"<b>Adopt positions that require less energy and that do not put pressure on your chest.</b> Use pillows to support your back. If necessary, let your partner play a more active role."

"<b>Stimulants such as amphetamines can be dangerous.</b> Marijuana increases your heart rate and the need for oxygen, which can lead to shortness of breath. It is up to you to make the best choice!"

Good advice but I don't think I'll be saying "Hold that...uh...thought, I have to do my bronchodialator and then we have to wait 20 minutes before we get it on." Haha. Who likes to schedule their sex? Spontanious (sp??) is the way to go!

Yes spontanious is good but you get to a point that its either "hold that thought" so you can get a broncho dialator or have to stop right in the middle of everythign because of a cough attack...wonderful...I know some of my friends on here are probably grossed out now. But anyway i cant ever just be spontanious...i can pretend to be and go sneak in a treatment and then suprise the hubby...but other wise its sitting in bed doing a treatment before anything can happen. egh

Same with me. I like being spontaneous but I sually end up coughing my head off during so it kind of kills the mood! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0"> I try to do my inhaled stuff long before we do anything so my poor boyfriend doesn't have to sit there waiting for my attack to stop!

Just a quick thought, if you need the bronchodilator and spontaneity is your concern...Stash an albuterol inhaler in the bathroom. Most women "go" to the bathroom to do whatever it is you do before the act anyway. Take your inhaler, it starts working in 10 minutes, if your partner is worth a salt the foreplay will make your wait time go by quickly. I will add this, positioning is very important for more reasons other than shortness of breath. I was in a, lets call it a non-traditional position one time when I felt the bubbling and my blood flood gates opened up in tremendous fashion. It took me 5 minutes before I stopped coughing up blood. Talk about dampening the mood!

Foreplay? What's foreplay? HaHaa. After many years most of us forget that foreplay is not just taking off the clothes.

I'd like some info. My guy and I both have breathing problems, so sex has been a bit of a challenge for us. Creativity is a must. Sometimes though foreplay is enough to were us both out.
