I am quite strict with myself regarding alcohol hand gels while in work or out in public places. I would try to avoid touching my mouth etc, you know, the usual precautions to avoid germs. In truth I've been known to be somewhat OCD about hygiene- a good thing when you've got cf However, maybe I'm overlooking some areas?

I wondered, should I avoid that intimate contact between my boyfriend and my mouth...if you catch my drift? Thing is he would be pretty upset if I was to tell him I'm dropping that particular hobby!!! I'm sure he's free of the usual sti's but what about yeasts and other pathogens that present no danger to non-cfers...any thoughts?

Let me preface this by saying that I am not at all OCD about germs, etc. Most of my friends w/o CF are more cautious about germs than I am. (just pointing this out, so you can take what I say with a grain of salt)

I have never heard of a problem from the activity you're referring to, but then again I guess it wouldn't be something that is brought up on here a lot. I have no problem with it, and don't think it has caused me any harm. I guess if you are really concerned, maybe bring it up with your OB/GYN if it's too awkward to talk to w/ your CF doc...I'm sure the OB/GYN are used to that stuff

I too dont see a problem with oral sex and cf. But like Debra I am not quite ocd about germs. I do take precautions such as alcohol gel when in public or at the Drs.
But as far as oral sex, I would never cut that out of my "hobbies" for the sake of CF.
CF robs me of enough in life and it wont rob me from intimacy with my husband!!
I hope you find the answer that you are comfortable with, but I say go for it and enjoy!!!

I am pretty OCD about germs but this has never crossed my mind. For me this would fall into the "you have to LIVE life" category. I would not worry about it.

I agree with what everyone here is saying. I don't think there's really anything to worry about. I've never had any problems with this. The only time you should be concerned is if he has some sort of infection, which you would probably notice...as would he. Guys typically don't have yeast down there and it's usually uncommon for them to get yeast infections (don't get me wrong, it's possible, but less likely in the grand scheme of things). I think if he's ok, then you're ok.

For me, it would depend on how long we've been together and such... I mean as far as worry of sti's and std's. Is he willing to be checked?

Also, Im sometimes OCD, but I dont know for sure. For me, its a hygiene thing, almost always that activity for me is after a shower so I know we are both nice and clean lol ... and its never done after a workout or if lots of sweating has gone on (not just oral, but regular sex too b/c of UTI infection... my college roomate got one from her bf who worked out all the time and the dr. said that it was from that)

some will probably consider that OCD, but it doesnt affect our sex life overall. B/c we dont normally do "spur of the moment" stuff after he's worked out anyways or vice versa...

good luck, and it does sound like you could bring that up with the ob-gyn and/or cf doc.
