For those of you that suffer with chest tightness, and some sort of "asthma component" with your CF...how long did it take for you to notice a difference after starting on Advair? Was the difference significant?

I've been on advair for over a year now. It's possible I noticed immediately, but I don't remember. Maybe it took a week or so to realize I wasn't wheezing when I woke up anymore. I figure all that wheeziless sleep must be good for the lungs. Honestly tho, I think the bronchodilator component is more helpful to me than the steroid component. I'm debating asking the doc about switching to Serevent (which is just the bronchodilator part) to see if that accomplishes the same thing. Who knows. BUt overall, Advair has improved my asthma symptoms. I'm glad I'm on it, controlling asthma is definitely helpful for me to keep PA at bay.

I actually did a search (I should have done it first, I know) on this topic last night, I did not realize the love/hate relationship with this drug.
The reason I ask is because I have been taking 500/50 for about 2 weeks now, and I really do not think it is helping me any. I am not sure I am getting enough "powder" in.
The reason I ask is because I have been taking 500/50 for about 2 weeks now, and I really do not think it is helping me any. I am not sure I am getting enough "powder" in.

Advair does come in a regular "puff" metered inhaler. I used to use the diskus, but then the powder started bothering me. Now I use the inhaler with a Vortex chamber and I feel like I get much more of the med and that it works better. I also take 2 puffs (the meter is a 112, so 2 puffs of that is equivalent to my old 250 diskus), so I feel like that helps too. It also may just not be the right drug for you, but the inhaler is worth a try, IMHO <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> .
