Advair has saved me!! It took about two weeks to notice the difference. Main difference for me was no more over-whelming fatigue!! I'm on the highest dose.

My daughter was on Flovent or Advair or Symbicort for 11of her 12 years. Her current pulmonologist explained that these do not help CF as an obstructive lung disease, but some people with CF also have asthma. My understanding is that Advair will help if your PFTs FEV1 especially improve after taking albuterol. Also my understanding is Flovent is an inhailed steroid and Advair and Symbicort have both an inhailed steroid and aversion of albuterol. My daughter never fealt better nor had better PFTs on these medicines and also shows no restrictive lung disease by PFTs. Look out for low cortisol from long term use.

I've been on it for a few years but I've never noticed a difference. I thought it was kind of pointless so I stopped taking it and then when my cf doctor found out, she asked me to go back on it.

I have been taking salbutamol and flovent. What's the difference? A nurse in another hospital than the one I usually go to asked me whether Advair was what I was taking, I said no, that I was taking salbutamol and flovent and asked what Advair was. She told me it was a long lasting combination of a bronchodilator and anti-inflammatory. It kind of made sense to me that my doc would keep me on what I currently have. We have to wait 15 minutes after taking the bronchodilator for it to take effect before taking the anti-inflammatory, to insure that the later will be inhaled more effectively. So it makes no sense to me to combine the two...

My 12 year old started Advair about 8 months ago. He starting having these coughing fits when he was running around and doing soccer so they started him on the Advair inhaler b/c they believed it was due to asthma. It has worked well but we have yet to get rid of the cough that is not CF related. We just recently started being treated as he has pseudomonas with Tobi and Cipro. After his culture came back they decided to add Bactrim to the mix. His culture came back negative from pseudomonas but since doing this regement he can already tell a BIG different. He can actually take a deep breath in and it doesn't feel restricted and he isn't having a coughing fit when he is active and running.

I've been on it for a couple years. I notice a difference when I stop it. I've been on the diskus (which gave me thrush constantly) and the HFA at 45/21 and 115/21. You still have to wash out your mouth after doing the HFA, but I'm not getting thrush all the time now, so it's helped in that aspect. I do have asthma related symptoms, though.
