Advanced Directive, health-care proxy, etc..

Hi everyone! My father has recently mentioned that I should probably have an advanced directive or some other form of legal paperwork in place naming someone to take over my health-care decisions if I am unable. I was just wondering if any of you have something similar, and maybe any advice or information you could share with me.

Thanks!
-Julie

Hi Julie,

I have an advanced health care directive -- got the forms from my doc's office. When you fill one out and have it notarized, make sure you give a copy to your doctor, and make sure you give your dad and/or other family members a copy and let them know you have one. When I filled mine out, I discussed it with my sister exactly what I wanted, so she knows, and it's written down as well. Good luck!

This document is wonderful:

I already have one and I got my fiance to fill one out too. It's legal as is in many states. And if it's not legal as is in yours, you can get it legalized (sometimes with notorization, sometimes with the use of an attorney). But it covers a lot of little specifics that many formal papers leave out.

I have a ?? regarding all of this if anyone knows (how about a few of our members who are attorneys).....

if you have something in place and you are married....can a parent come in and overrule what the spouse has decided?

I remember the whole court thing with that lady who was in a coma state for years......what a battle between her parents & the husband.

I ask this ONLY because I have a gut feeling that there might be conflict between what Robert/Jazz would decide & what my Mom feels is best **sighs**

Sorry to hijack the topic
