Someone mentioned the Glyco nutrients to me also. I havent heard much but I think Ill do some research on it. As for MRSA I have that also. Think I got it when i was about 24 or 25 and im close to 28 now. I have noticed more coughing and lower lung functions over the past few years but Im not sure if its the MRSA or just my CF progressing. Before I reached 25 I had not noticed my lungs declining at ALL.But these past years I have.So my statement to you is this, MRSA from what I know is not a HORRIBLE thing, however it is something to add on to CF that you dont want. If it is the reason my lung functions have declined some and hospital visits have become more frequent, then Ill say its a pain in the @ss.

I think you need to understand nutrition, as we all derive energy from carbs, protien and fats. In any athletic study the source and quality of the food doesn't effect performance. That is, cheap soda or high grade whey protein doesn't matter. Typically diet doesn't effect lung capacity BUT high sugars and developing diabetes will reduce health significantly. Now lets talk CF and the 30% chance of developing CF related diabetes (CFRD). as our pancreas gives out, (that's why we take pancreatic enzymyes) and the cells that develop insulin. This is why diabetic patients should stay away from refined sugar products. Why burn out your pancrase faster than it may! What's bad? Sugar, cake, cookies, candy, bread, soda, beer, wine, Life requires balance. Beware such high sugar prodcuts as Scandishake, its ALL SUGAR = high frutose corn syrup, ect. I suggest learning about high and low glycemic carbs, long and short term burning proteins, good and bad fat, the need for small meals so we digest food more effectively. To all those who wish to gain muscle mass, it's not always possible, most don't have the genetics, poor absorbtion, anitbiotics ruin out internal flora, but muscle builds protein, not carbs. I feel that diet should be broken down to 60% protein and an equal split of good carbs and good fats. heavy low rep weight training works best, protien before and after. Most docs don't undersand training and a training diet. You can fed a family of 5 high quality protien supplements for $300/month. it only cost me $70/month.You need knowledge, not sugar products.Al, 52, diagnosed at 16, 5'10, 184#

Dear ozgal,21m/wCF here. Don't know about Manatech. For lung function, 1 hour of physical exercise a day has helped my lung function actually increase. Swimming is awesome b/c one can go fast or slow, or just do water jogging or breathing exercises. Also, for me, growth hormone therapy helped me gain weight, grow, and increase lung function.

Dear Diane,

I just happened to be browsing the internet and found your discussion about cystic fibrosis and glutathione. You said you were taking glutathione by mouth.

Have you heard about the research of Dr. Gustavo Bounois on glutathione. He found that the best way for the body to get glutathione is by giving it the building blocks needed for it to be manufactured in the cells. He discovered a protein that has these building blocks. His research is well documented in over 20 medical journals. It has national and international patents.

If you are interested in learning more about his research and the product that was produced to provide the body with the building blocks to make glutathione as well as its relationship to CF, please email me at stayinghealthynow@yahoo.com and I will be glad to discuss it with you.

Dear ozgal2001,

Please save your money. Mannatech's "essential sugars" product (Ambrotose) appears to be nothing more than some plant extracts plus vitamins and minerals. There is absolutely no theoretical reason (or scientific evidence) to support using such a product in cystic fibrosis. As a previous poster indicated, too much sugar of any kind can increase the risk that a person with cf will develop insulin resistance or diabetes. Any sugars the body needs can be made from the carbohydrate available in plant foods. There has been a long history of supplement companies selling concentrated nutrients found naturally in plants (high-dose beta-carotene, for example), but follow-up studies have generally shown this approach to be a big mistake, since no supplement adequately mimics the healthy balance of nutrients found in the whole plant. The bottom line is that you would do best to encourage your child to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables a day -- at least five, and the more different colors, the better. You are much more likely to be successful if everyone in the family does the same. And we all should, anyway. A diet high in fruits and vegetables is protective against heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and probably some musculoskeletal problems and Alzheimer's disease. That's the closest to a "magic bullet" for health available anywhere and it's a lot cheaper than "glyconutrients" such as Ambrotose.

Ozgal 2001:

I looked into this wonder glyconutrient a while back.

Fact: the guy who is the CEO has been convicted of fraud and in the past ran several scams.

The Stock offering for the company claims that the company does not know of any health benefits nor has any information as to if the supplement has side effects or could cause harm. Look it up. They did not even manufacture the supplement until recently, just a marketing company. They have told the government one thing, the sales staff something else.

All published "scientific research" is published by the Fisher Institute as I recall. This is not a scientific pier reviewed publication and is run by the wife of a top executive of the company and is owned by Manatech. This is a sales aide not science or a scientific publication.

The company has tried to hide and keep the links and history away from the dealers.

A doctor in Oz. lost his practice for becoming a dealer and seemed to like being a dealer rather than a doctor. The review board in Oz. considered it to have no benefit last time I looked into the supplement.

If you do some web searches you will get a better idea of this "what I consider to be a scam" with no double blind research. Testimonials are hardly science, hope it works for most people, yet placebo's work better than many drugs.

I just read your response regarding Mannatech and I believe you should continue to do your research. The science is there, you just have to read it. Glyconutrient's were named as 1 of 10 emerging technologies that WILL CHANGE THE WORLD by MIT. I work with numerous Dr.'s who prescribe these products to their patients and take it themselves. The changes I've seen in myself and all the people I've helped speak for themselves. Our fruits and vegies no longer contain the amount of nutrients and minerals we need and as the FDA says....we MUST NOW SUPPLEMENT, we can't get it in our diet any longer. The sugars you are referring to can cause health problems, but these 8 sugars are naturally occuring in plants and not the same as our table sugars. Continue to research and you will be amazed at the amount of research out there supporting glyconutrients and the $ donated by the NIH for continued research in this area. Billions is being spent by the drug companies trying to find a way to manufacture synthetic glyconutrients, as they are having such a positive impact. I believe in 1998 glyconutrients were given the Biochemistry Award of the Year. Blessings to you and Jordan.

Regarding Manatech products: My daughter was positively diagnosed with MS in 2000 at the age of 25. Her symptoms included numbness from her waist down, falling on occasion, and the inablity to keep up with someone walking even slowly. She had difficulty manuevering stairs, weakness in her wrists, and the whites of her eyes were blood red. She suffered extreme fatigue and pain as though she always had an earache, and incontinence. She had extreme reflex reactions, and a spinal tap revealed the protein which is the positive diagnostic marker for MS. This is not a hereditary illness; there has never been anyone diagnosed with MS in this family.

Shortly after she was diagnosed, I was laid off work and I no longer had insurance coverage. The doctor had prescribed Avonex, an experimental drug with no guarantees. This was to cost us over $1000/month. Of course, this was impossible for us to pay with my being out of work, and she did not qualify for medicare because she wanted to be honest about reporting a $300/month income for babysitting for her sister.

We turned to the internet for help and found truehope.com. We purchased these supplements and her symptoms subsided rapidly. They cost about $80/month. The main disadvantage was that she had to take quite a few of them and sometimes they would stick in her throat. Then my brother told us about Manatech and she started using Ambrotose. This was just as effective and cost less than $40/month. She has since married and had two children.

I am not saying that she is "cured" but as long as she uses a superior nutritional supplement, not necessarily Manatech, for there are several available, her symptoms do not reappear.

She may have always had MS, but her symptoms did not become evident until she went out on her own. I mention this because I always had a vegetable garden and we raised our own beef, chicken and rabbits, and we had a milk cow, so we always had fresh milk and made our own butter. We did not use pesticides or herbicides, and we rotated our crops.

The body does repair itself. If it did not, your cuts and bruises or broken bones would not heal. However, it must have the correct nutritional building blocks in order to perform its work. Your broken bones, for instance, could not heal without calcium. We must have all of the nutrients our bodies require for optimal health. Unfortunately, we cannot always obtain the nutrition we think we are getting when we buy food from the market.

We see evidence of greed all around us. People are trying to get more money by selling inferior quality products. Furniture is made from compressed sawdust and paper, air is whipped into ice cream and it is sold by volume instead of weight, yogurt is filled with tapioca, cornstarch and pectin until it is more of a pudding that it is real yogurt. Animals are fed hormones and antibiotics to make them grow extraordinarily fast so they will get to the market sooner. These things are done without regard to the health of the consumer. Herbicides and pesticides contaminate our food supplies. The land is not replenished, but crops deplete the soils and are thereafter grown with fertilizers which do not contain the minerals our bodies need. Fruits are picked before they are ripened in order to prevent financial losses due to increased risks of spoilage as it goes to market, so we do not get the benefit of the nutrients that can only be produced by sun ripening. Foods are genetically altered for convenience of transport, rather than for nutritional advantages.

Greed can infect ANYONE. You cannot assume that just because someone is a doctor, a medical researcher or a pharmaceutical company researching for cures to disease, that they cannot be tempted. For instance, pharamaceutical companies cannot patent natural substances such as food, and therefore cannot profit by researching nutrition in relation to illness. Also, there are no laws preventing pharmaceutical companies from offering gifts or other incentives to doctors so that they will prescribe their product to their patients. We don't technically allow this in politics, but for some reason it is not even considered necessary to be regulated when it comes to the medical community. Maybe it has something to do with the godlike regard people have towards doctors. But doctors are people, too! They can be tempted, they can be unscrupulous, they can be too busy, they can make mistakes, they can be ignorant of many things. They only know what they have been taught, and they do not know everything.

We can do things to detoxify and clean up our bodies. Anybody who has an almalgam filling or who had immunizations has mercury in their bodies and needs to get rid of it.

Manatech works. EMpower works. And so do many other products. But so does growing your own produce, meat and milk.......

Knowledge can be had, and with the internet it is available to more people than at any other time in history. Use it, and you will be less likely to worship at the feet of those who profess to have more knowledge than you.

I have heard from several people that this product is the real deal. I've seen it work my self on a few friends who were not doing that well.
