African safari

It has been my dream to go on an African safari. We have done a lot of research and were all set to book one this week. It now looks like I can't bring my Vest. What would you recommend as a close alternative? I really don't want to not go because of it.

Also, has anyone been on a safari and have any pointers?

ACapella device or a flutter? Or see if you can talk an ape into doing manual CPT <img title="Sealed" src="include/wysiwyg/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-sealed.gif" alt="Sealed" border="0" />

all the above are excellent suggestions.
When I went to a deserted mangrove island in the middle of nowhere to do research, I took a handhelp percussor so I could do the PT myself. It held up pretty reliably, even with the heat and rain. MIght want to look into it.

Wow! How fantastic! As far as physio goes, there are a few options as have been mentioned. I have tried pep, flutter, acapella and of course manual cpt. Out of the hand held devises my pick would be the pep. The pep can be used in any position, including during manual cpt to increase effectiveness or 'clicked' into a pari neb set to be combined with HTS (which works really well). I find there is a place for the other two to mix things up a little but given the choice of one pep wins hands down and it wont break the bank! The flutter is designed to great vibration or 'fluttering' on the exhalation. This device gets a better deeper vibration if held the right way than the acapella but can only be done in a seated position and not side-to-side to treat problem areas. The pep can also become brittle in extreme temperatures and have known them to crack after being dropped. Acapella also creates vibration but again must be held in a good position to be effective. I sometimes find getting the setting right tricky and it sometimes leaaves me wanting more. So there you have it! Some thoughts on all of them!

Have a wonderful trip and stay safe and well!

Hi, I have just returned from S. Africa where we were on Safari w/ my son 14 w/cf. We brought a brand new freguencer, but it didn't work (factory mishap). You could bring your vest if you get a transformer up/down. It can be set @ 230up to take the voltage to the right place.
We went to Kariega and Kwandwe which were both great. I suggest you let the ranger know about your lung issues, and don't fall in behind another truck while on safari(to avoid the dust and sand from the other vehicle). That said my son left w/ PFTs @ 90% felt well, but no airway clearance resulted in PFTs @ 73% upon our return. A course of antibiotics and chest pt four times a day for a week have him back up to 83% and climbing. Go, you will have the time of your life!
