Allergic to cats...

Hi,

My docs have been trying to figure out why, over the last year, my FEV1 has gone down more than 10% pts and I've had more frequent, difficult to treat exacerbations. So, they recently did some testing for viruses and allergies. The results showed that I am highly allergic to cats (which hadn't been the case when I was tested ~ 5 yrs ago). My docs are looking into getting me Xolair. I love my kitties and would never give them up. So, I guess I'm just looking for some moral support, haha. I hate to ever think I am knowingly doing something that is bad for my health. I am also not sure that I buy that this is really having that much of an impact on my health. So, I would appreciate anyone sharing their experiences!

Thanks!

Wow - I don't have CF, but I don't know what I'd do if advised to re-home my kitties! They're my
"kids", too! I'm praying that they aren't an issue for my little one(s). I'm not very familiar with allergy shots, but are they an option?

I went from cats to no cats and my breathing and sinuses improved dramatically. I could never live with cats again. They are cute tho, don't get me wrong. -James

I get allergy shots for dust, tree mold, cats and dogs. I do not have a high enough IGE to qualify for Xoliar, though I should get it checked again since it was several years ago and I now have a dog (no-shed, mostly poodle labradoodle, 65 lbs of love). My dog allergy was only picked up at National Jewish where they use "SuperDog" serum. All other prick tests before and after did not show a reaction. BUT getting a dog was still a questionable idea on my part. I understand your love of the kitties. Good luck with the Xolair or shots. I also have an Alen300? room air filter--for dust since I am severely allergic to it.
