Allergies anyone??

Ok, some background. Since we've lived in VA, going on 3 yrs now, Connor has seemed to suffer more and more from stuffy head, post nasal drip, sometimes itchy eyes, but not always, just the drip then the cough, almost consistantly so I'm not sure if it's allergies or viruses. So, I demanded (that's the right word too, cuz I really had to push for the referral) Connor be tested. We had part one of the testing today (a civilian, no military this time) and boy did I get an education on allergy vs irritant, antihistamines and decongestants, steroid and non steroid anti inflamitories....all good info, and I feel better armed to make decisions now. What I am wondering, is how many of our CFer's are on meds like Claritin, Zyrtec, Psuedefed, flonase and the like. I recently encountered another CFer who just moved to our area who takes Singular AND Psuedefed, which I thought was over doing it- I now know different. In any case, I want to know what irritates Connor and what he's allergic too (not always interchangable) so I can make sure he's comfortable, all the while, keeping the number of pills he takes to a minimum. So, I'm just curious what combinations help others, and is anyone getting allergy shots.

Allergies can cause so many problems! I'm glad to hear you were able to get Connor tested.

I think you will find that most CF docs don't recommend pseudoephedrine. It is very drying, and that's not good for people who need to move the mucous out. Some people think even Zyrtec is too drying, but Jordan's doctor has suggested it for him. It doesn't work for Jordan though, so he doesn't take it. What is working best for him right now, is Veramyst. It is a nasal spray. He's been very pleased with it.

I hope you find what works best for Connor.

Both my 8 yr old and 3 yr old have allergies. We tried Benadryl, Claritin, Triaminic, Dimatapp. We had to keep switching because each one would work for a while but then they would begin not working.

Their Dr. finally put them on Singular and they have done great. They have been on it for over 3 months and it is still working. They say that if they have allergies and they are not treated they will cause sinus infections. If you can I would have him tested. Hope this helps.

M came home in March and had been on Zyrtec for 2 years for a constantly running nose the fostermom called allergies. Turned out, 2 weeks of IV antibiotic cleared that runny nose and the sinus congestion that came with it right up for him.
