Altera (Cayston) for Albuterol, HTS and Pulmozyme?

Hey LouLou,

I don't know anything about the Altera yet.

But I did just get started on a Trio and have some insight for ya. I've wanted one for a while but had not felt TOBI was very effective in previous years to to resistance issues. Now my resistence is getting a bit worse but TOBI/inhaled Tobra is working much better for me. Go figure.

My Tobra schedule is intermittent due to 1) trying to use antibiotics only when needed to help improve my resistance profile, and 2) more recurrent usage of IV antibiotics (I feel ya Piper).

When I dicussed my issues with Foundation Care they were very helpful. Their protocol is that if you fill at least 3 times within a 12 month period you can keep the Trio. Of course not sure how well the REALLY track even that. They said that worst case they would have to ask for it back at some point. I'm guessing they make enough just on the first script that they have at least broken even or close. So maybe they might just let it slide. Hey if they can give you a free Altera with no strings attached with just one Rx of Cayston, what's a little used Trio to them?

SO GLAD to have time back due to the TRIO. It's quite amazing. BTW I do HTS, Pulmo, and Tobra in it rinsing the aerosol head in between to remove med residue. My only concern is with the HTS eventually trashing the head. But for now I'm going for it.

Hope that helps,
Steph

I recently received a Cayston prescription. I have not started it yet, I'm currently on Tobi and will move to the next drug in about a month after finishing Tobi.

I've used Altera for Albuterol and Hyper-saline. The reason being is my clinic will not prescribe eflow because the "right" dosages have not been studied enough. Well I've been pushing to get this information since other clinics seem to have it. I decided to try to use eflow like device that came with Cayston and I like it. Unfortunately it just frustrates me more that I can't get the actual Trio device and have to sneak around and use this device.
