I am always tired as well. Sometimes I will go to bed around 4 or 5 in the evening and not wake up until about 9 in the morning. I take naps all the time, usually for hours at a time. I feel bad for my fiancee because I am such a slug sometimes, although he understands. If you haven't been checked for diabetes recently you might want to be. Before I was diagnosed with diabetes I couln't figure out why I was always tired. If your blood sugars are too high you tend to have no energy. I can definitely tell a difference in the way I feel if my sugars are high.
Good luck!

My first inclination is that your body is not well enough nourished. I used to be like that. Sleep 10-12 hours at night and take 2 naps of about 3 hours each every day. I was hardly ever awake. I now take a supplement that has helped turned that around. I have much more energy. I usually sleep long nights, but do not always need a nap anymore. And I don't feel sluggish all day. The other thing is that you may need more water. Try drinking the recommended 8 ounces, 8 times a day and see if you feel better. You may also be anemic, but from experience, just taking iron pills isn't usually enough for a person with CF because of absorbtion issues and other nutritional deficits. Email me if you want more information about my supplement. jaloughlin3@sbcglobal.net

I am always tired as well (in fact kinda glad to see others have this problem) I don't have any nutritional problems either. Sometimes, I will have gotten like 7 hrs of sleep and almost fallen almost on my commute to school. I am a big fan of naps, personally. Though right now, I am in school and not working, so I am able to take naps. I sometimes worry about making it through a work day when I am working a 9-5 job!

I definiitely agree with Debbie on the O2. When my body gets really tired thats a sign that an infection is coming on. If i was you i would go get your PFTs and your O2 checked. better to be safe than sorry! Let us know how you do.....

Hey --
I have been having the same complaints recently -- it seems like no matter how much I get to sleep, I always feel exhausted and I never seem to have any energy. I work as a nurse full time and I sometimes think that that is the reason I am so tired but, I feel like all I do these days is work and sleep -- it is a horrible feeling. My health is fairly good -- no infections or hospitalizations recently and I take iron for anemia.... I often wonder if this is very common with people with cf -- I had 2 brothers that had cf and they seemed to rest alot but, it never seemed like they craved sleep the way I do... but, then again, they didn't work full time... Anyway, glad to know I'm not the only one that is beat.

I also get tired alot especially when Im sick. I wonder if it is due to the fact that most of us probably dont ever get a restful nights sleep. I mean we all cough and Im sure coughing and having difficulty breathing must effect the bodys REM sleep, which is where you get your most important rest. If you never reach REM sleep then you dont get proper rest. I know I cough alot especially at night when lying down. I dont know, its just a thought/observation I have.
Also, our bodies probably have to work alot harder because we are constantly fighting infections and stuff.

Hmmm i was just thinking, if the tiredness is something that just started happening in the past few weeks or months, you may want to have a sputum culture done to rule out any new infections. If its been going for years, it may be just what jaime said. I have also felt overly tired ever since i got b.cepacia, but i started taking glutathione in May, 2003 and it made a dramatic difference for me. I now finally have the energy i used to have before i got cepacia. Im not trying to promote glutathione, i just wanted to let everyone know that i know what its like to feel like you never sleep, and have found something that works for me.
