I called my doc to get some meds b/c I'm sick again (Im sure I caught it back from Olivia). Well while on the phone she says that I am culturing a bacteria, gram-negative, she hasn't called b/c they don't have it isolated yet. Its could be nothing or it could be a bad bug and need like 18 months of IV antibiotics...

Anyone else been through this, anyone know what Im talking about??? I tried to google it and didnt really find anything.

Just a guess, but maybe she said a mycobacterium. Some of those do require several months of antibiotics, some oral and some IV. There are several different mycobacterium such as mycobacterium abscessus or mycobacterium cheloni. Some cause more problems than others. The sputum culture takes up to 8 weeks to be identified.

You could call your clinic back and ask to be certain. Good luck.
