So while I wait for the dr's to book the sweat test, which seems to take too long, another dr has thrown me for a loop. One of the other options that they thought Madi mayhave is GERD- reflux. So they said they were ordering a scope to be completed. I called today to see if it was scheduled and now the dr has said that she would like Madi to take Zantac for a month, come see her in Sept and then she will decide if the scope was needed. So then I asked if Madi has been diagnosed with GERD and was told no- well why would you give a 15 month meds for something she has not been diagnosed with. So I asked to come in to talk to her and I was told she was available Aug 26 and to start the meds.
I am soooo mad. They are throwing all these possibilities of a diagnosis at me, but then stalling on the tests. So now I don't know if Madi has GERD, CF, both or something different!!

My daughter was diagnosed with GERD...she didn't need a scope to find that out. She had an upper GI done first. It is a lot less invasive. All she had to do was swallow some barium and then watched it go down her esophagus through an x-ray machine. Maybe ask to see if they can do that first. Also if she has all of the symptoms of GERD you really don't need a test to diagnose it. It can pretty obvious when you let your dr know the symptoms. That is why they might have put you on Zantac...just some thoughts. PM me if you want to know all about GERD...my daughter has severe GERD...we have the laundry to prove it!

It's also not uncommon to do a trial of medicine if GERD is suspected. If the symptoms improve, they assume it was reflux. Keep in mind though that zantac is not all that strong, as reflux meds go.

It's quite common for CFers to also have reflux. Plus the zantac (or other meds) help to reduce the acids in the stomach to make enzymes more effective. DS was on zantac as a baby and still spit up.
