I've had that, mostly in the night when it's even more annoying cause i couldn't sleep when i was soo tired that i really had too. I always get it when i have a bad cold. My doc said i could take Codeine if it gets really bad. But that's not good cause it makes you stop coughing altogether and can make the mucous build up in your lungs (hope you know what i mean). Otherwise there is nothing much that helps me when i have that tickly feeling in my throat.

Good luck

There is a good chance that it is post nasal drip. Those tickly sensations are the worst because nothing seems to relieve it until it is ready to subside. Possibly doing an albeuterol before bed would help, but outside of those two things I dont have any real suggestions. I dont usually have alot of that unless I am getting a head cold or sinuses/allergies are kicking in big time.....Hope you get some relief!

My kids have that ALL the time. We have been told it is post-nasal drip causing tickles in your throat. It is so annoying and it makes your throat raw. Our doc told us sudafed and saline nose spray to hydrate helps.

I agree with Melissa, when I read the original post, I was thinking nasal/sinuses.
In myself, I struggle with sinus problems. I would say it's my biggest Cf issue right now. I have the awful drip in the back of my throat all day, and it makes me cough at night too. I have to go in for sinus surgery in a month or so to have 2 polyps removed. I can't wait-I'm hoping things will different after that.

Question- do those of you with the tickle have reflux? When you're lying down at night, acid that comes up the esophagus can trickle down into the larynx (voicebox) and cause a tingling. (I happen to be a speech therapist, a geek who knows too much about the larynx! ;-) ) Does it go away if you prop yourself up? Mike has this tickle almost every night, which really annoys him. He pops mints which seems to help. (swallowing won't affect your larynx but the menthol from the mints helps I think.) I think if you feel it in the back of your throat it could be post nasal drip but if you feel it more in your "adam's apple" area, it could be reflux.

When that happens to me, I usualy go and get a drink of water or try and eat something small, and that kinda helps a little bit also.

I have the lovely post nasal drip too, and my Amikacin leaves my throat a little dry to boot. When it gets annoy, I eat yogurt or swallow a spoonful of honey to help coat my throat. It helps a little.

I have always had this problem. I normally try to blow my nose frequently, even if I don't think I need too it helps get the junk out rather than let it drip down the back of my throat. Also sucking on a candy or drinking something cold for me works. It drives me friends crazy too but I have unknowingly started this habit of clearing my throat every few minutes. I guess my body's way of dealing with it, but that seems to alleviate some of it as well.
As far as sleeping, if I am having a hard time I sit slightly elevated and it helps some. Cough syrup (I take Robitussin CF or D usually) helps too. Also those throat numbing sprays if you react well to them(i.e. don't gag or choke like I do) can help. There are also medicated nose sprays that you can use but you would have to talk to your doc about which is best for you.
