Antibiotics while TTC/pregnant

Hi everyone!

I follow this section a lot but really never post too much. I guess I'm just shy...I just had my first iui this past month which did not work so am about to get ready for my second. I went to clinic for a routine check-up last week and my culture just came back with a high count of PA. It seems like that's just normal for me, but my dr wants me to take 2 weeks of cipro. I feel fine, I sounded clear last week at his office, my cough is my standard, and I'm not short of breath at all. I just really don't want to have to take off a month of trying especially since I don't feel sick at all.

I guess I have a few questions. Did any of you take any antibiotics while ttc? Also, did anyone take azithromycin throughout their pregnancy? I was thinking maybe I could try that instead because I know Cipro is not good to take while pregnant, but didn't know if that was the same for azithromycin. Also, does your dr typically start you on antibiotics just based on a culture coming back high, but everything else is still "normal"? I appreciate any help!

Thanks!

Have your doctors given you any advice regarding this? Mine have modified my antibiotics (when I've needed them) to ones that are safe to take while TTC. If you HAVE to take Cipro to get better and it's not safe to take while TTC, although it sucks, it might be worth it so you can be in prime shape when you get PG.

I assume your dr knows you are TTC?

We are also ttc and my dr. put me on inhaled antibiotics instead of oral ab.

There are definitely certain ab you don't want to be on if ttc. I'd follow up w/ your dr. and remind them that you are trying to get preg. in case it slipped their mind when writing out the rx.

As far as the bact counts, if you're trying to get preg. it would be best to treat and reduce bacterial count now while not yet preg than holding out and hoping that it doesn't affect your health after you are preg. I also have high PFT's and we held off a month to see if I could kick the bact down myself and my pft's went into the 80's, first time ever. I am usually over 100% for fev1. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

When I was TTC, I was on IV antibiotics (Aztreonam & Zosyn) and Azithromycin. I did not take Cipro during my pregnancy because of the possible effects it could have on the baby .. but i did continue to take the azithromycin throughout the whole pregnancy on mon/wed/fri's. My daughter is almost 9 months old and doing super!
