Antibiotics while TTC/pregnant

Hi there,

Just for me personally, I wouldn't choose to do antibiotics if I was feeling fine and my PFT's were fine, even if I was culturing a lot of PA. My doctors have always chosen to treat me based on my symptoms and how I'm feeling. Although, when I cultured MRSA they were very proactive and started me on antibiotics right away and I haven't cultured it since. But when it's just regular PA I don't see the reason to treat it if you have no extra symptoms. Just my opinion, every patient and every doctor is different.

When I was pregnant I was too afraid to take oral antibiotics so I just continued on my inhaled ones throughout the pregnancy. I was told that I could start on the MWF Zithro if inflammation was causing me a problem, but I ended up waiting until after pregnancy to start it. (I think it works really well by the way!) I did have one exacerbation in pregnancy in my 2nd trimester and I took Colistin which took care of the problem. Otherwise, I used my regular Tobi. But a lot of antibiotics are safe for pregnancy, even IV antibiotics. Here is a link I found about Cipro and pregnancy.

I actually talked to my CF team and my OB/GYN about all of the Rxs I am on within the last two weeks. There were a couple that I was told not to do, others that I was recommended not to do and others that were fine. Azithromiacin was fine, my OB even told me that they perscribe that one to some of their pregnant ladies to help them get over stuff. I don't know about Cipro though, because I only go on that one when I am in the hospital.

I have taken amoxicllion and later on i took azithromyacin pack. Those so far were said to be safe by my doctor. Hope to stay well tho for the rest..but i know that is unrealistic to think. Keep catching colds that get into my sinuses and have to take a med for it. I am at 21 weeks now.....hope that helps.

HI THERE,

I'VE BEEN TTC FOR 3 YEARS NOW AND I MADE A LIST OF ALL THE MEDICATIONS I WAS ON (INCLUDING ANTIBIOTICS - AZITHROMYCIN AND CIPRO) WHEN GOING TO MY FERTILITY SPECIALIST APPT. SHE SAID THAT "AZITHROMYCIN" WAS DEFINITELY OKAY TO TAKE - BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER PREGNANCY.

SHE ALSO SAID THAT CIPRO WAS NOT THE BEST CHOICE BUT THAT IF I (REALLY NEEDED IT) DURING THE 3 - 4 TRIMESTER THAT IT WOULD BE OKAY. BUT IF YOU CAN HELP IT IT WOULD BE BEST TO STAY OFF THIS IF YOU ARE TTC OR PREGNANT.
