My 11 year old son with CF and has been taking antibiotics daily his whole life. He tested positive for b cepatia 2 years ago and has been on Bactrum since then daily before it was Celflex. He was a little sick 2 months ago and took a month cycle of Cipro on top of everything else. He also inhales Fortaz for a month and Tobi for a month one after the other. He has only been admited to hospital 2 times in his life. He only has been to one CF center his whole life. I just met a parent who had children with CF. She said she went to a different CF center and they didn't take as much antibiotics and did some different things than center we go to. Just wondering what everyone else out there is taking as far as antibiotics. How long and what? Also has anyone gone to a different CF center (doctor) for a second opinion on treatment? Thanks

Well I have to say every cf clinic is different but I have never had the resources to go to another cf clinic for a second opinion. I am usually on Tobi every month b/c tried one month of with colistin and did not help. I am also on zithromax 3x's a week and pulmozyme once a day. I do not have cepacia but have a very resistant type of pseudo and mrsa. When I go into the hospital for IV I am on imipenium every 6 hrs. and tobramycin once a day. Hope this helps! If u don't mind me asking what are his fev's like.

I have a four month old and we are not on any antibiotics yet. What daily antibiotics would they put a four month old on typically?

It depends on the type of infection that your child has....anything from TOBI for pseudomonas to a regular antibiotic such as augmentin (sp) for a bacterial infection.<img src="i/expressions/rose.gif" border="0">
