Lindsey, did any of those three babies have CF do you know? This is an interesting conversation. I will have to share with my husband who (half jokingly) boasted about how our son won't have to worry about getting girls pregnant. I am def. sharing Lindsey's story!!! Thanks for having the guts to post this!

BTW, what is the likely hood of a person with CF having a CF child. 50/50? Or the same as a CF carrier?

The odds are 50-50 since the person who has CF will definitely pass along a CF gene. Of course, that's assuming their SO is also a carrier. I joke with Piper that she'll have to get her boyfriends tested and kick the ones to the curb that have a CF gene <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

Jenn,
Someone with CF + Carrier = 50% chance of baby having CF & 50% chance of baby being a carrier.
Someone with CF + someone who is not a carrier = 100% chance that baby will be a carrier.

Basically, it really depends on the other person. It's a given that the baby will be at least a carrier, since either gene that the affected person passes on will have the CF mutation. Comprehensive testing to determine carrier status for the other partner is essential in order to make the most informed choices. (Obviously, this isn't a great scenario for a teenager to face by taking unnecessary chances.)

You should speak to your Doctor , He or she can direct you to
a local clinic, Or maybe it can be done at your clinic.

I had one done at 18 and another when I was 21 at a Independent
Lab . It is a bit embarrassing for sure.

My Brother thought He was sterile for years, He finally
went and was tested. Opps ..One side was working fine.
