Just curious, I love golf. PLayed for my high school when I was in good health and played 3-4 times a week until Cepacia got me. I still go about once a week, but I had to cut down to 9 holes instead of 18. Any other duffers out there?

If not, what do you like doing?

My son is the CF patient at our house, but I love the game!! I really don't get to play as much as I would like, but I hope that will change as the kids get older and can join me rather than having to hire a sitter for them as I go. I also played for our high school team and we made it to State my senior year. LOVED IT!

Do you walk it or ride it? I really want my son to love it as much as I do!

No golf here but I love to play sports. I am a fanatic to play or watch almost any sport, preferrably mens except tennis I wish Anna Kournikova would come back <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Oh and I have a question. How do you come in contact with cepacia? Do you have to get from someone else who has CF and has it or what?

Oh yeah, this surprises some and encourages others. My favorite in school was track & field. I could run 100 meters in 11sec flat, 200 meters in 23.86 sec, and 400 meters in 53 sec. After that it really goes down hill. Did run half mile in 2 minutes 28 sec. once. Went to State Track & Field championship in 1998, but didnt do well there. They were really really fast, but nonetheless, I have CF and I ran with non cfer at the state level. What makes it more odd is that during that time, I never and I mean never took my enzymes. There was a period from about 1996 to 2000 that I did not have a job or a medical card so I just prayed for God to keep me well and done my best.

There is a young lady that has CF and CFRD that has done quite well, even going as far as placing high up in the amateur golf competitions.
Her name is Mallory Code, if you just do a internet search on her you can read all kinds of info on her.
She had pneumonia some months back & I haven't heard if she is back on the links yet or not.

I love golf!! I played a couple years in high school. This summer I've played quite a bit...not as much as I'd like to. I try to play 18 and will walk it unless it is way hot.
Keep swinging!

Thanks for the replies everyone.

To answer your questions, I ride it now. Used to walk in high school and I HATED it. Our home course was basically and manicured cow pasture. LOL Lots of hills. Wish I could walk now for the exercise part, but the heat just gets me.

As far as Cepacia, it is passed from Cfer to CFer. Actually healthy people can be exposed to it or have it but they can fight it off to no effect. It is in vegetable sprays. Look up Burkholderia Cepacia on a search and you'll find a ton of info.

Actually played 9 today, temp was in the 70's and low humidity.

That's pretty funny. The course we belonged to last year was a made over farm. The weather here in Iowa has been perfect to play. No humidity this week and low 70's. If it would only stay like this until April...

Golf? Heck no! =-) I've golfed before mind you, but I ended up getting so bored I decided it would be a lot more fun to try and hit the other people on the field. Ha ha, then my cousin was mad at me because I got us kicked out. =-) I do enjoy walking around on a nice golf course, though. I think, if I was any good at it, I might enjoy golf a lot more. =-) ...or I might just be more accurate at hitting people. =-)

I was on a summer golf league sometime in my high school days. My two brothers and I would be on a team and just enjoy learning about the sport.
However, at the time, the walk was a little exhausting, I didn't have much for excercise in those days.
As I got into Judo in my early 20's, I had a few hand injuries that when I tried to go back to playing golf again, the vibration of the club would hurt my hands, so I never continued.
Coming to Japan, I thought It'd be great because next to baseball, it's the second most popular sport. Unfortunately just to play 18 holes would cost around $200!
Whew!! good thing I wasn't ever invited for that!
The walk is great excercise for those who can't run or do much else for strenuous excercise.

Yeah I have heard golf in Japan is crazy high priced because it costs so much for the land.

My son is 3 yrs old & absoultley LOVES golf. For his 3rd b~day, we did a golf theme!! He watches it on tv & when he sees it out & about he yell GOLF!!!!! We live right up the street from a golf course,& we HAVE to ride through there sometimes. Hopefully he'll stick w/ it & become a pro & help his ole ma & pa out (LOL) He also spots golf when we're out shopping on the clothes, PGA (emblems) he is a trip when it comes to golf. He knows all the slang to the game, FORE, PAR, etc. We also have a video golf game for him.

Hey

I love to golf. I play usually a full 18 3 times a week. Sometimes play 36. I walk it mostly, but have used a cart sometimes. Can get exhausting but I guess all exercise does. Gotta aim for a below 80 game. FInally got below 90 this year!
