At my PFT on Monday, I learned my FVC and FEV1 have both dropped by over 20%, putting me at 60%. Although it was worse than expected, I knew thing haven't been right recently.

About a month ago, I became suddenly short of breath and had a rather severe pain between my left shoulder and neck which was worse with breathing or bending over. Chest x-ray showed no lung collapse or pneumonia, but my diaphragm on the left side was elevated. Further testing found no airway blockage or pulmonary embolism, and the cultures from the bronchoscopy grew only my typical bugs.

After a week or two, my diaphragm just began moving back down, and my breathing began to improve. However, it never went back to normal. In fact, last week it suddenly worsened again, although not to the point it had been before. The pain, by the way, went completely away as my diaphragm fixed itself.

This week, my breathing is better again (not normal, obviously). In fact, Monday, when I had the test, was the best breathing day I'd had in weeks. My pulmonary doctor is on vacation this week, unfortunately!

I was okay with not knowing what had happened if it was going to fix itself, but the drop in lung functions is rather frustrating when we can't figure out what caused it. I'm curious if anyone has had a similar problem or any thoughts on what might have happened.
