Sorry...I read these things too fast and sometimes miss things.

I responsed to desensitization for an allergy...not resistance.

I've never heard of it for resistance. If a bug is resistant, then it is resistant. You can try different antibiotics or combinations of antibiotics to combat resistance, but I don't think you desensitize for it.

I too am baffled by what your doctor is wanting to do. Like everyone has mentioned so far, desensitizing (to all of us it seems) is to make you less sensitive to a medication so you hopefully will not react to it. I've only heard of it being used for an allergy as well.

I would call up the clinic and ask them specifically what they are wanting to do and how it is supposed to work. Certainly they wouldn't mean giving you an extremely high dose in hopes of getting your "bug" to react to it.

The only thing I have ever heard is that sometimes when they stop using a particular antibiotic because you have become resistant to it, later (like many hospitalizations later, or even a year or two later) that all of a sudden you become sensitive to that antibiotic and they can use it again. I do believe that they check your sputum out for everything each time they run a sensitivity culture. At least that's what I've seen with my two girls.

Call 'em and ask what exactly do they mean.
