Sean,
Why can't you take these oils orally? Obviously inhaled is best because it goes right to the source, but if it may irritate your lungs, then would it do any good to mix all the oils with a glass of orange juice or something that may dilute them so they don't taste as nasty?

The only reason you would be on TOBI in that case is as a preventitive measure. Same thing for someone with MSRA; I think the TOBI is just to make it harder for new strains to come in.

Yeah, anyway you can get them in your body is good, but of course there are ways that are better than others, like what you stated. You will still get lung benefit out of oregano oil, and some other oils. The problem arises with "some of the other oils". Some are more volatile than others, like tea tree oil. Tea tree oil has shown some serious side effects from internal use, but those amounts were from freakishly large levels of intake all at once. I seriously doubt that a regimen of say 2 or 3 drops under the tongue of nearly any non caustic essential oil would harm you. But some oils are pretty mean with their reaction to mucous membranes. Cinnamon oil is notorious for its irritant/blistering effect towards mucous membranes.

Basically theres a ton of grey area when dealing with essential oils. Theres one or two (or maybe three or four) that are generall safe for internal use for an extended period of time, and others that more herbalists than not feel aren't a good idea to take internally. The thing is, there are several out there that are AMAZING antimicrobials, ranging from staph, yeast, bacteria, and even viruses. The other large benefit to their use is their massive antioxidant properties. You have to do your own research or listen to others and figure out what are pretty safe for regular levels of internal use, and which ones are best to stay away from, with internal use.

I've been taking oregano oil internally in both drop form under tounge, capsules, and in my nebs. For the other oils I plan on doing, i'm going to take the lead from the other guy on here who is using them with steam, via a facial sauna/inhaler. You still get the benefits from them, and they are more diluted that way. I'll let others know how the steam inhalation with the oil goes for me after I start. So far, the only essential oil that is 100% safe in every delivery method, with normal dosage is oregano oil, that I am aware of. But there are other oils out there that have medicinal properties that can help our CF in tons of ways, so they shouldn't be ignored. Ya just gotta apply them properly.

Just a warning for those using Zyvox as preventative. Zyvox is the only medication that is available for VRE (Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus) - so if you use up your last resort and get VRE (from repeated treatments against MRSA) there will not be a medication that will clear up your infection (at present time). I use Bactrim twice daily 10 days out of every month as preventative treatment for MRSA. I've been doing this for a year and have not been on any IV meds in a year. Prior to this I was in the hospital every 3-4 months related to MRSA. To the poster that states his girlfriend inhales Vancomycin - when did she start doing this? Last year I was told that Vanc could not be inhaled.
