Anybody else had a hospital experience like this?

Zeke has developed some sort of infection post surgery. He was running a fever of 103 last night but thankfully it is down to normal this morning after they changed antibiotics. Please be praying the antibiotics continue to work- otherwise he will be going back to PICU.

And his CF doc just told me this morning that we may have a lot more time here in the hospital. :-(

BTW... the surgery basically corrected midgut volvulus in addition to the adhesions. They completely re-arranged his intestines and anchored them with stitches so they will be less likely to twist in the long run. But it was a major surgery...even more so than the surgery for his meconium ileus.

I'm kind of beside myself today. Just down and not sure what to think. I hate seeing my baby this sick.

I'm so sorry, when DS underwent his surgery for MI at one day, there were a number of issues, including a volvulus, which was caused by the blockage -- the area had expanded because there was no where for it to go, he also had malrotation, some necrotized tissue, infection and an area ruptured during surgery -- ended up being very complicated surgery from the start. He too developed a couple of infections, which delayed his recovery.

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Hopefully he's now on the road to recovery.

I'm so sorry you and your baby have to go through this. My daughter had bowel surgery at 5 days old for a meconium ileus. At 5 1/2 months old she needed emergency exploratory surgery; she was throwing up not pooping and becoming lethargic..She had lysis of adhesions from her original surgery and a volvulus bowel obstruction..Her intestine was in pretzel loop somehow. She did not need any bowel removed from her second surgery, they just lysed the adhesions and untwisted her bowel. She was discharged after 5 days . I hope they are able to treat the infection your baby has and that his bowels are on the mend.

God Bless You,, and little Zeke,, I wonder if there is a such thing as a normal hospital visit??? You sound like a strong person, and you are staying on top of things.. Keep us up to date on Zeke, and you... I'm so sorry you and Zeke are going through so much.Just try to rest when you can, so you'll keep strong for Zeke. It's very easy to get so tired you can't think straight,,,and you feel like you're going to colaspe (if u hadn't already). Once u get just a little rest, you'll get that burst of energy that will help u fight for what u know is best for Zeke..It's amazing some medical personnel you come across !! But also there are great medical personel ! we'll be praying for your family.
