Hey guys I was just wondering if anyone had ever read or heard of any of the studies and info that this DR had put out in regards to CF - he is not a CF Doc or a pulmonologist by the way. . My step-dad had mentioned him to me and a book of his (Dead Doctors Don't Lie). I researched some of his stuff in the past (a few years ago) and came across some interesting things. I was just wondering if anyone here had ever looked into him/it.

I would give it a look see if you are interested. I recall him stating in his studies and info that he thought a root cause to the problems CF causes was a selenium deficiency. At the time I figured I would try taking a selenium supplement but had difficulty finding one. It took some searching for me to come across one, and I did take it for a time. I didn't notice much of a change, but I realized I would have to take so much to really get it to absorb. I remember doubling what the bottle recommended and noticing a slight change, but nothing too too remarkable. I am not real sure why I didn't continue trying it to see what happened, but I didn't. I am thinking of revisiting that supplement to see if it is beneficial is why I am posting.

I was mainly wondering if anyone took that as a supplement? If you do how much do you take daily? How long have you been taking it? Do you notice any change in how you feel? Any change in the symptoms you experience due to your CF?

Also have any of you heard of Dr. Wallach and/or done any research into his studies/findings? I am just curious if he is even well-known because I had not heard of him til my step-dad brought his name up and asked if I had ever looked into his stuff. If none of you have heard of him I figured I would put the name out there and let you guys do your own research about him if you chose to do so.

Have a good one,
Lindsey

Hey Lindsey,
I forgot to list that as one of my supplements..it is actually included in my glutathione/vit c/curry pill. Selenium is an essential mineral and is needed to help in the uptake of glutathione.

People with cf do have lower levels of selenium....and my theory, personal...totally undocumented, that we have too much copper. Unfortunately, we have many defecient in many areas with minerals, antioxidants....there is probably not a cure all. It is better to take several supplements than, say, just selenium....raising the level of one will do very little to help you achieve an overall balance.

Selenium was one of the first supplements given to me when I was diagnosed with chemical sensitivity - before the CF diagnosis. It is an antioxidant, helps with liver function and The Prescription for Nutritional Healing (by Balch & Balch) says that people with CF are often deficient in selenium. I take it in my multi (mega) vitamin now.

Yessum, I've heard of his "theories" and wish he'd just quit while he's ahead.I'll be honest-- he's a liar, a pseudoscientist, and a conspiracy theorist. :/ There's a reason why he isn't well-known in CF circles.

I am almost 47 years old and I started to take Selenium recommended by Joel Wallach and my Cf doctors when I was 19. I noticed along with eating foods highly enriched in selenium plus using solgars selenium that my tummy got flat and that I completely stopped having bleeding episodes. AT the time if I had coughed up blood it was only a teaspoon at the most so when moved from NY to FL I started taking selenium and the diet and this for many years until my transplant (very long time) I use to take 250mcg of selenium and now I just take a multi that includes selenium. I probably should take extra but being a transplant patient I try not to take so many vitamins. I say if your kidneys are able to take added vitamins then take the selenium no more than 250mcg otherwise this can become toxic.

I met Joel Wallach and was part of his cf study. He is a very nice man who is caring and just wanted to help other CF patients. He had many doctors interested in his findings but because it is a natural supplement he could not go far. I would not have stayed on the supplement for so many years if I did not believe in it. I agree that all minerals and vitamins are very important if one is lacking there can be problems in the body.

He now has his own vitamin company and think that is great. He was a veternarian.

Ciao for now
