Hey Everyone
Went to the doc yesterday and my FEV did go up a little bit. It was like 28 percent or something and now it's 33. So the IV's are working a little so far! I told my doctor that I want to start exercising but not sure how to start. Don't want to start out too big and get sick of it or get too worn out. He suggested starting out with yoga. What does everyone else do that is low impact or easy to start out with? Any suggestions or ideas would be helpful. I would even get a yoga DVD if any of you guys have a suggestion. Thanks a bunch!

Hi Jen:

I actually highly reccomend yoga. I finished this morning about an 1/2 hr ago. there is a great book with great pictures I can recommend. It is called Yoga, Mind, Body and Spirit. real clear photos of each position. My husban and I took a few brief courses to get us started and then built our own program. We lay low in the winter so if we have to we will start more lessons in the Sping. It works out good because yoga also encourages good breathing technique and relaxation. You may feel at first like your wasting time. But then give a few days and all of a sudden your feeling more flexibld and little aches and pains go away. i really find it beneficial. I also would recommend Tai chi. I would Google it and maybe find a person teaching it in your local area. The thing to remember there are lots of options for low impact. Most yoga teachers are trained in personalizing techniques just for your needs.

Good luck.

I forgot the Author's name of the Book is Donna Farhi

" Yoga Mind Body and Spirit " A return to Wholeness. for students of all levels and traditions.

i also wanted to mention that I did Thai Chi for a year and a half and freakin love it. It did more for me at that time for streghthening and overall health. I will try to find a site for you if you would like.

Jennifer- I'm so glad you asked this question. I myself have dabbled in yoga in my early teens, but stopped after i got my port.

Is there anything yoga-wise I should avoid with my port? I don't want to be in the middle of a pose and hear a big rip as my port dislodges or something...sorry TMI!

I enjoy yoga because it get's my body all stretched out and helps with strengthening my core muscles...which we all know help with breathing!
