Anyone else dreading the upcoming months?

The fall/winter season is usually the hardest on me for picking up germs goes. As far as tolerating heat and breathing effort goes, summer is the worst in that respect. The humidity pretty much leaves me home bound and my O2 requirements seem to be higher on those days. I do get nervous this time of the year though, for several years now, excacerbations are inevitable and hospitalizations are pretty common for me. Maybe this year will be different though, I was really sick this summer, so maybe my body will behave for the fall....lol I am on IV's now, but at least I am home and I am not super sick.
I also get hyper vigilant as far as other people coughing, snotty noses, etc... goes and try to steer clear of them. It gets difficult if I am at someone else's home and a visitor comes in with cold symptoms though. I have actually left family functions early because of this. I continually have to drill it into some of my family members that even a simple cold can leave me very sick and in the hospital....one of them had the gall to bring his young son to my house sniffling and coughing a few weeks ago. I was so angry and he knew it. I don't care if I come across as being short tempered or b*tchy, it's my life they are messing with! I go through bottles of hand sanitizer during the fall/winter months....I use them in the spring/summer too, but the use of sanitizers goes up a few notches during those cootie months.

Well, we are extremely nervous. Our DD is almost 3 months old now, and we worry like crazy about her first cold. We both got our flu shots in order to protect her, we try to stay away from people that seem sick, we don't know what else we can do.

Especially last fall/winter was a bad season for me, as I interact with a lot of people, and I was down with the flu 3-4 times. Now I got the flu shot early, I don't want to pass anything to her, I hope it's better this year.

We had a rule when DS was a baby that if anyone wanted to hold him, they had to wash hands or use hand sanitizer. Anyone in close contact -- cousins, grandparents, daycare providers, aunts, uncles all got flu shots as well. I also keep hand sanitizer in my purse, on my desk and use it when I get to my desk, after shaking someone's hand, going to the store. When I get home, I wash my hands.

When I go to the clinic for anything -- myself, ds -- I use hand sanitizer frequently. I also bring my own reading material, etc. to avoid touching the magazines. Still can't figure out in this day and age though why clinics continue to have toys and playrooms. Bleah!

I just want to thank all of you for making me feel so normal. My daughter remains in CF dx limbo, but I feel the dread about the holiday season. Cold and flu season are tough, but for some reason family seem to feel obligated to get together no matter how sick during the holidays. I try to arrange the get together's after Christmas Day so we don't spend another Christmas in the ER, but then missing school right after the holidays is tough too. Thanks and best wishes for a healthy winter.

I always dread it too . To the point now where I cant really catch anything . My lung function is too low and the bacteria is resistant to all the antibitics. So it is very stressful. Mostly because people don't want to understand in my husband's family.
