My 4 year old daughter, Hayley, just cultured this in her throat culture for the first time and they are going to treat it oral Augmentin. She has never cultured this particular bacteria before and when I searched it on the internet, it is a group of strep that causes infections in the vaginal and rectal area and it the same strep that they test pregnant women for before delivery because it can be passed to the baby in a vaginal delivery. So how the heck did Hayley cutlure this particular form of Strep in her lungs?

The doctor does not seem concerned about it, but I just think it is unusal and wonder if anyone else has cultured this and if so, how did they treat it? Did it go away for good or continue to come back?

Thanks in advance for any replies!!!

My son has cultured Group B Strep so many times that I've lost count. It started about 3 yrs ago. Sometimes we found it because he would complain excessively about a belly ache, but most of the time it was thru sputum cultures. He will take the antibiotic & be fine. I was told by our CF ctr that some people are carriers of this & he must be one of them. Weird thing is, he never has had the classic strep throat issues that you'd think he'd have. My docs have never acted like it's a big deal either. We haven't had it for over 6 mos now.

Hope this eases your mind a little.

Thanks Shannon! I was really starting to get worried that no one had responded! Hayley has been complaining of her belly hurting as well! Does your son get a cough at all when he is culturing this?

Now that you ask that, I think that may have been one of the times we found out it was the strep, cuz we went in for the cough. But no, not normally does he get a cough w/ it. I'm starting to get to the point that it seems if there's anything else wrong w/ him, that most of the time the cough shows up w/ it. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> But not always.
