my husband is deployed in iraq right now, but when he gets back in 6 months, he will be at Ft. Wainwright Alaska. i'm trying to find any information about cf docs around there... but having no luck. i know there is a cf center in Anchorage, but thats a good distance away. if there isnt a cf doc close, the military wont move me up there with him <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> i was just curious if anyone lives/has lived up there, especially military?

i'm in the process of enrolling in the Exceptional Family Member Program. I subbmitted my paper work 2 months ago, and still cant get any information out of them.

The only CF doc in the state is Dion Roberts in Anchorage. He takes excellent care of his patients. He is involved in drug studies and stays very up to date on everything. He works 7 days a week and is always available on call. He is the best CF doc I've had in my lifetime. Anyway, you can drive from Fairbanks to Anchorage. Most of AK is not on the road system and you have to fly out. It is a pretty short flight from Fairbanks to Anchorage, as well.

I know Dion has patients in Fairbanks and that he sometimes treats them from a distance, since the hospital in Fairbanks does PICC lines and such. I would definitely call Dr. Robert's office with your questions. I am willing to bet that he personally would call you back. You can PM me with any questions, as well. Or I would be willing to chat with you on the phone if you'd like.

If you are enrolled in EFMP they will give you a hard time if there isnt a military CF center close. But you can fight it if you really want to go there. And you might have to get a referral so that you can go to a civilian instead of a military one.

We had the same problem and EFMP prevented us from going to Germany, and Texas, even tho there is a military facility with a CF center in San Antonio, But because it was more than 100 miles they said no. But we didnt fight it. And Didnt know we could until it was too late.

Good Luck.
