AAP has recommemded that all children should have 8oz or less of juice per day.

We're strict water drinkers here...unless its really hot and M needs Gatorade for the electrolytes.

The AAP had gotten more strict about the juice thing around the time I started having kids so from the time they started drinking it I diluted the kids' juice and limited how much of it they drank. They didn't know what 'real' juice tasted like for the longest time.

At this point they drink mostly milk and water and the occasional glass of OJ; I buy the calcium-fortified OJ for my oldest son (who doesn't always get enough milk) and dh (ditto.) They will drink other juice over someone else's house but never ask for it at home, due I think to not really cultivating much of a taste for it when little.

I am glad that they are all good water drinkers now; it's a good habit to cultivate young.

EMily is not a juice drinker. She'd go only on water and gatorade if we let her. At dinner, we bribe her with a cup of wanter if she finishes her milk first!

My older daughter, though, drinks a fair amount of jiuce. NOt more than 8 oz. a day, BUT she does have frequent tummy aches and issues. I'm going to cut back on it for a week or so and see what happens! Thanks for the info!

LOL! We've done the same with our Emily! People have looked at Emily like she has 2 heads when she's asked for water and we've told her 'when you are done with your milk!'

Apple juice might be a culprit for your older dd; maybe substitute something like white grape for the juice she drinks and see if that helps. Some kids get really gassy and/or have loose stools with apple juice.
