Anyone here have hypoglycemia?

I had to go in for some bloodwork last Friday due to this constant off & on nausea I've been having. Everything came back pretty good with the exception of my glucose level which was 55...ref range 64-105. I have dealt with hypoglycemic episodes for years but have never had my glucose dip that low (at least when I've had bloodwork done, it's usually in the 60's-70's)...I am sure there have been other times when it's dipped down too low, because I can feel it. Anyway, I was curious if any of you have hypoglycemia and if you do, do you monitor your blood sugar levels regularly?

TIA,

I've had it most of my life, but it only hits me hard when I am hungry and can't get food into me right away.

After my transplant I actually went the oposite with the prednisone I was (am) taking. I was shocked that I couldn't drink a regular coke or eat candy, but since my levels of prednisone have gone down with time I no longer have high blood sugar, I am back to low if I don't get food soon enough when I start gettin hungry.

Jen,
I would suggest checking your b.s. levels regularly, so they don't get too low.
I have diabetes, but have low blood sugars if I don't eat snacks every 2-3 hours. I just hate the shakiness, sweatiness, disoriented feeling...all those things you probably experience regularly.
When my sugars are down in the 50's or so, a glass of orange juice or some other type of fruit juice works best to bring it back up (followed by a snack).
I've read that if you're trying to bring sugar levels up that chocolate isn't the best thing, because it takes too long to break down into your system...just an FYI.

Hypoglycemia is almost the exact opposite of Diabetes. It is when you have trouble with your blood sugars getting to low. I actually have reactive hypoglycemia. That is when your body overreacts to sugar. I don't have a whole lot of problems if I go without eating like most people with hypoglycemia do, but if I eat something sweet on an empty stomach then my body over reacts and puts out to much insalin, which makes my sugars plunge. Whether you have problems with your sugars going to high or to low you need to be very careful. I've been told that having drastic changes all the time can cause your blood to crystalize. I don't check my sugars all the time like you are suppose to when you have diabetes, but I do have a tester so that I can test whenever I feel like I need it.

I also have hypoglycemia. I check my blood sugar at lease once a week and when I am feeling dizzy or shakey I like to test it. I also keep a journal of what my leval was and what I had ate that day and when. The thing I make sure to do is always have a little snack with me if I think I might me gone to long. Eating every three hours or so has helped me alot. One thing that I have foung helps me the best when I get that sick feeling is milk. I don't know why but it does. The lowest I have ever recorded was in the 20, and i felt horable so make sure you stay on top of it because by then i was to weak to do anything. Everytime I go to my three month check up with the cf docs I take my journal and show them so they have an idea whats going on. i hope that helps.
