Hi there,
I'm 32 and still have my original lungs...and doing quite well. My lung function is still in the low 70s...and havent had to have iv antibiotics now for almost 2 yrs! I developed CFRD 7 yrs ago and have other complications such as arthritis, sinus problems and thyroid problems. I also have a brother with CF who is 25 and his lung function is in the 70s as well. We both have the double delta F508 mutation. Take Care!

Hi...37 female here w/CF (almost 38) I still have my orginal lungs! I feel great. But like ALL CFers I have my bad and good days too. I have a very "Mild" case of CF. Unfortunatley my 28 yr old brother w/CF is on a lung transplant list. He got pneumonia? I think that's how you spell it..he got reall sick in June and went down hill from there. He lived in Ontario Canada and moved to BC Canada to get the proper CF help that he needed. Now's he waiting to see the transplant doc.

I'm a 40 yr old male w/CF, and still got the same lungs I was born with! However, since my activity has lately decreased (hard excercise), I've been feeling it. I'm also one with a mild case, in fact, It's been frequently compared to a "light smoker". <img src="i/expressions/coughing.gif" border="0"> When I had a CT scan done a few months ago, I was surprised at the "damage" and prognosis from a doctor who knew nothing about CF. However, with my sister's contacts in the States, one of her doctor friends had taken a look at the same thing, made the same prognosis, but said, "darn good for a 40 year old with CF". It took the worry off of me, but I still miss my hard excercise which kept me going strong!<img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">
The doctor recently diagnosed my lungs as having Bronchitis, but I wonder if that's another prognosis for a normally healthy functioning set of lungs, and mistaken for someone with CF who's conjested, or if I really DO have Bronchitis now! <img src="i/expressions/oxygen.gif" border="0">
I think in the last year, my health has been going down, but a lot of factors have been involved, and I hope by changing those factors, my health will be up again, like the valleys and mountains I've had in the past with it.

I'm a 36 yo female with original parts....just dx'd this year. They call me a moderate case with a very aypical presentation. At my last clinic visit, they said I cough a lot, even for a CF'er! Haha! I started off this year with FEV1's in upper 60s to low 70s, but caught yet another bug over the summer and my FEV1 seems to be restablized at about 55%. Only know one of my mutations...F508.

Hi, I'm Becki. I just turned 42 and still have my original lungs. Are there any other females out there my age that don't have the digestive issues, but have low lung capacities that I can chat with?

I'm 34, will be 35 soon. I still have my original lungs, and before I got sick last time, I was at 100% lung function, one time before that going up to 108%. The doc seems to think i'll live to a very ripe old age, he said maybe late 50's or higher, depending on me staying like I have been and what new treatments are coming out. I'm not going to get on my soapbox about natural antimicrobials, but the total name of the game CF wise to get as much life out of your situation is to keep your lung bugs down to as low levels as possible. Tobi was a good start, but we all will develope resistant strains of PA with prophalactic antibiotics with time. Take care of yourself as early as possible to avoid misery and a shortened lifespan, not like I was an angel, but still good advice.

I'm 24, and I still have my original lungs. I have the occasional problems with CF in my lungs, but for the most part my problems are in my digestive tract. I have CFRD as well since I was 14. I've been hospitalized twice for my lungs - once when I was 16 for an infection, and once at 22 for a pulmonary embolization. My doctors tell me that I shouldn't have any major problems with my lungs for a good number of years - into my mid 30s at the very least!
