I can now add high blood pressure to my list of health issues. I am 65 and I suppose I should be just happy to be around still but..Lol... Is anyone here taking beta blockers. My GP just prescribed (Atenolol) for high blood pressure. I see the side effects include possible broncho spasms, wheezing and shortness of breath...Doesn't sound compatible with CF....Thanks

Beta Blockers

I have taken a Beta blockers since early 2010. I have had not any issues with side effects. SOB, wheezing and stuff are my norm and were before my heart condition ever started.

I am on lisinopril for BP. Dont know if it is abeta blocker, but works. I kept asking the doc when at appointments why my BP was always so high. His reply was, "probably from being at clinic raised my pressure". But even at home it was high, so lisinopril was prescribed. I dont seem to have any side effects.

I too am on high blood pressure medicine. As more of us are living longer, we are experiencing the medical problems of non CF people our age. I take Clonidine without any side effects.

Good luck,

Funny you would ask. I am a CF geezer, having turned 63 this year. Another topic post asking about migraine and sinus headaches reminded me of my introduction to a beta blocker, in this case metoprolol. I didn’t have high blood pressure per se, rather several spikes precipitated by my hair triggered adrenal glands. Reasons aside, I took metoprolol for over ten years with no side effects.

Not particularly on your subject but again I am taking metoprolol for blood pressure that recently went crazy, like 200/40. I have only been taking for the last three months so this probably is no help with your question, but I find it still very effective and for me, free of side effects.

The type of blood pressure medicine you can take includes several choices so if you fear taking a beta blocker, there are completely different families of BP meds available. On the other hand ain’t it a kick getting diseases of old age!

Thanks for all the useful replies!! Yes, it's GREAT fun trying to sort out old folk's 'normal' health problems....NOT...lol Truthfully, I think I was happier thinking CF was going to run my life's credit card to the max. Now I also have to worry about, cancer, kidney failure, high blood pressure etc-etc...yada yada and so on.

I take Norvasc 10 mg. at bed time. Takes 8-10 hrs. to get in system. Have been on this for two yrs.

Regarding old folks on this site, wonder how many folks are 60 or older??
Think I might start a post and see how many there are of us.
