I am sorry dustin but that is very bad, inaccurate advice. You just got lucky. These people all have very credible reasons for why their children are SSI elgible.
To answer your question Melissa, yes there is that portion of SSDI where for example, you are the CFer so your daughter gets a portion of your benefits. The catch I am talking about is this. Say you have a child, toddler perse who is ill and meets the CF disabilty criteria. But the mom and dad both work and make too much money to qualify for SSI, and a toddler can't qualify for SSDI because SSDI is off of work history credits. BUT, the catch is this... say the maternal grandparents of the child both recieve SSA retirement benefits. The disabled child can recieve a portion of the maternal grandparents retirement benefits, NOT subject to any of the parents income. It's kind of a way around the SSI system if you make too much $$$, you just have to find willing family members. Does that make more sense?
