OK so I was diagnosed with CFRD a lil over a week ago. My question is this....Are they sure of the results??? My glucose fasting results after 2hours was "15". BUt ever since I've been testing my own BG's it's been in the "normal" range!!!! and I haven't changed my eating habits at all. So my question is are they sure of my results, 100% sure?!!!!??????? Has this happened to anyone else? I am 38 yrs old and female.

I am not an expert on this, but my understanding is that the glucose test is quite different then our finger sticks at home. I am not sure if its because of the concetrated syrup we drink or different things they look at or what, but finger sticks is a "guide" not a way of dx thus we cant use that. Someone who has more experience with CFRD should be able to elaborate on my thoughts.......at least I hope!

I have had diabetes 26 years now ( insulin dependant) and one thing i know about it for sure is that it can be ever changing. I can have a few weeks of perfect blood sugars, and a few where its all out of whack. I also have a few days here and there a month where i can take no insulin and i have low blood sugar anyway. Thats the one reason it took a while till i got diagnosed. It seemed every time i had a blood test it was within normal range, till one time they tested my blood sugar and it was over 1000 ( No wonder i felt so sick). The better question is....... how do you feel? Do you have symptoms of high blood sugar? Unquenchable thirst, frequent urination, dizziness, weight loss despite bigger appetite?

Just to clarify a few things, since you're new to CFRD. Your fasting blood sugar readings are the ones you take first thing in the morning before you eat anything.
And on the 2 hour post-meal reading, do you mean 150? If it was "15" you would be so stinkin' shaky, sweaty, disoriented and feel like you were going to pass out if you hadn't already.
The only other thing would be if you live outside of the US and your reading of "15" means a totally different thing that a reading of 15 in US terms.

I have CFRD, and all I can say is that CFRD is different then regular diabetes, because your pancrease will still produce some insulin once and awhile. I've been diabetic for 10 years now, and every once and awhile my pancrease will work a bit, and I'll have to decrease my insulin drastically to prevent lows.

Last year my doctor had diagnosed me as being "diabetic" based on an accu-check done in his office which was 311. My personal opinion on that is that their machine was out of whack. He was ready right then and there to get me started on insulin, which I did not do. I haven't had the fasting blood test or glucose blood test done (although they keep pushing me to get it done). After that, I got a glucose monitor to use at home to monitor my levels. Most of my levels were, and still are, within normal range with a few that were a little over the normal high and few that were below the low normal. I have never had even one over 200 since I have been doing them at home. Lately, my blood sugar seems to run on the low side. I had one day a few weeks ago that my level was 39 (and I was feeling the effects of it). I always try to make sure I have crackers in my purse. He has since listed me as being pre-diabetic and I'm not on insulin. Anyway, long story short, I am more convinced that I have hypoglycemic and not hyperglycemic (but that's just my humble opinion - I'm no doctor).

Except for one day when my BG was really really low (3.1) I feel absolutely fine. I feel wonderful. BUt when I did my 2 hour fasting ....at the 2 hour mark it was 15...so I dunno. It makes me wonder how acurate thier tests really are.

Ohh....from Canada. That may make a big difference in blood sugar readings (due to different numbering system???). Diabetic terminology could be different too for that matter.
Liz, what would be considered a good 2 hour after meal reading for you, a fellow Canadian (if you don't mind me asking)?

Well, I learned something new today!
That I shouldn't make comments regarding blood sugar numbers for my Canadian neighbors<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
Thanks Liz
