Have you ever heard this medical term used?
I saw it on a letter of medical necessity that I had asked our new CF doc to write. In it he states :
"I feel that we should institute pulmonary toilet for treatment of his cystic fibrosis."
I immediately thought oh my gosh! Someone has made a huge mistake in transcribing what the doctor said, or that something had gone wrong in the spell checker and it picked the wrong word.... pulmonary toilet!!!! how hilarious.
Before reaching for the phone to call his office I thought I'd google it... guess what.....nearly all of you here are using pulmonary toilet
The definition is:
Attempts to clear mucus and secretions from the trachea and bronchial tree by deep breathing, incentive spiratomy, postural drainage, and percussion.
