MedPage Today, of the University of Pennsylvania has recently highlighted a study from Boston University lead by J. Alexander Cole, reviewing 100,000 medical and pharmacy records of IBS patients "enrolled in a national health insurance plan". <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.medpagetoday.com/Gastroenterology/IrritableBowelSyndrome/dh/4197 ">medpage today article link.</a>With a 95% CI, found correlation of 60% likelihood an IBS patient would also have at least one additional diagnosis of fibromyalgia, migraine, and/or depression in "odds ratios" of 1.8, 1.6, and 1.4 respectively. IBS symptoms of constipation or diarrhea could not be ascertained from the records and hence if that had correlative association.
