I have always though my crazy lung pain was pleurisy (dry since there is never any fluid on x-rays), but this exacerbation has been different and I am thinking it has been atelectasis all along.
Last Thurs, I started with extra green sputum and chills, plus lots of chest pain. Pretty typical lower respiratory exacerbation for me. By Saturday, I was having left lung and shoulder pain--also typical for my broncho-pneumonias.
The weird part is that both Saturday and Sunday I went to sleep (after ibuprofen and hot bath) and woke up in the middle of the night with CRAZY bad left lung pain--moving at all was excruciating and breathing deep or God forbid, coughing, was OUT OF THE QUESTION. Now, this is what has been happening to me for 5 yrs quite frequently so thankfully, I no longer freak out mentally. I pant, ease myself into a bath, take painkillers, and IN THE PAST I had to wait several days for the pain to completely diminish. This time, both nights, it went away after 3-4 hours. Almost completely away too.
So, I am thinking that means it was an airway collapse and refill? Triggered my the shallow breathing of sleep? Pleurisy just doesn't make sense.
Anyone else have this happen?
