Atelectasis starting at night

I have always though my crazy lung pain was pleurisy (dry since there is never any fluid on x-rays), but this exacerbation has been different and I am thinking it has been atelectasis all along.

Last Thurs, I started with extra green sputum and chills, plus lots of chest pain. Pretty typical lower respiratory exacerbation for me. By Saturday, I was having left lung and shoulder pain--also typical for my broncho-pneumonias.

The weird part is that both Saturday and Sunday I went to sleep (after ibuprofen and hot bath) and woke up in the middle of the night with CRAZY bad left lung pain--moving at all was excruciating and breathing deep or God forbid, coughing, was OUT OF THE QUESTION. Now, this is what has been happening to me for 5 yrs quite frequently so thankfully, I no longer freak out mentally. I pant, ease myself into a bath, take painkillers, and IN THE PAST I had to wait several days for the pain to completely diminish. This time, both nights, it went away after 3-4 hours. Almost completely away too.

So, I am thinking that means it was an airway collapse and refill? Triggered my the shallow breathing of sleep? Pleurisy just doesn't make sense.

Anyone else have this happen?

The middle of the night part and the shoulder pain are indicative of gallbladder. Order and ultrasound of your gallbladder and if it reveals stones or sludge get it laproscopically removed. This happened to me. I always thought it was lung pain because they felt exactly the same.

Hmmm. Mine was left. A quick google search led me to read right side or middle pain. Was yours either/both sides? The 1-4 hr time frame, nighttime, crazy painful part fits though.

I'm having my gallbladdar removed in a few weeks. My pain was mainly upper back between the shoulder blades, some lower right abdomen. I didn't have much pain in my lungs but defintly felt like shocks up and down my back. THe ultrasound may reval more than just a gallbladdar- it could be coscochondritis or something else.
