Not to change the subject of this thread, but do you need to culture PA for zithromax to provide inflammation benefit to the lungs? My daughter has not yet cultured PA but regularly cultures MRSA. She does have inflamation issues in her upper airway and i've wondered about zithromax but haven't really researched it yet.

you're not alone! it took me over a year of researching for me to take zithro like my doc recommended.
i think that questioning therapies and doing research is very very wise. i am horrified when i hear of people who just accept what their doc says as gospel.

I was told that I am not a candidate for taking Zithromax long term because I have been treated for MAC. I have tested negative for the past 2 years but zithromax is one of the multi drugs I would need to use if it should return. They do not want me to build up a resistance to the drug in case I should need it.

I was put on zithromax way before I tested positive for MAC. They just put me on 3 other oral meds for it back in early Dec......Avelox, Mycobutin, Ethanbutal. I continued with the usual 3 day zithromax too. For the last few months of testing, which has been several tests, the MAC has not shown up. Nothing has shown up but Asperillos, even after testing the stuff from my bronch. So, either the other stuff worked or it's doing a really good job of hiding. I believe Cipro can also be used for MAC but since I have taken it a lot they wanted to try something new.

Yes up until I got preg I was on Zithro 3 days a week, like your son except at a 500 mg dose. Its for the inflammation benefits though, not antibiotic, so keep telling yourself thats why he's on it. There's been alot of research that shows its good for us. Now that I have the flu I am back on it-250 mgs every day till this clears up.
