azithromycin

I'm currently on azithromycin and have never had the symptoms with it that you're having, HOWEVER, I had those symptoms with zyvoxx a while ago...I put up with the nausea, stomach ache, pale clammy feeling for about a month and a half before I begged my doc to get me off of it. My thoughts on it were, "It may be helping my lungs, but if I can't enjoy my days of healthier lungs because I feel so crappy, then it isn't worth it...we can try something else." Sorry I'm not much help in reference to the azithromycin, but I know how you feel, and it wasn't worth it to me...especially if it's something that isn't getting better the longer you're on the med. The only thing I can suggest is to ask your doc about getting a Rx for Zofran or something like that. It's an anti-nausea. It didn't work for me like I had hoped, but maybe you'll get better results and still be able to get the benefits of the antibiotic.

I totally had a problem with MWF too. I still try to do it as best I can.
</end quote></div>

If the wife didn't put the pills out every night, I'd forget (But I am old!) She has the little 7 day pill boxes for the morning pills, and another one for nighttime. She makes them up once a week and puts them out for the morning.

I do the MWF on 500mg. Don't have any issues, well at least not with that.

if you are not alelrgic to quinolones (in Cipro too) try Levaquin instead of Azythromycin.
I have the same problem you do with that antibiotic. I mentioned it to my doctor and he switched me to Levaquin. There are different strengths of Levaquin I think.
Tell your doctor this you tell us and that you want to try Levaquin or any other antibiotic that does not hurt your stomach and make you so nautious.

Good Luck
this can be fixed easily.

I should add :

Have you tried eating 2hrs before you take the pill or at least 1.5hrs before? It helps if your intestine is busy and you have food in yr body so you dont feel so nautious. Try eating earlier than you are, so you dont throw up any food.

For the nautious feeling:
try rinsing your mouth with cold water, all that drooling has to be rinsed out because if it stays in yr mouth it will make you sicker.

also try some ginger, as in candied ginger or ginger chews it will cut the nautea. and ifyou dont dislike coffee make some coffee so your house neutralizes odors.

I see they put you on what some docs wante dme to be on, the same antibiotic for mwf but i couldnt deal with it. i stopped it.

i dont recommend you stop it, just switch type of antibiotic to Levaquin. make sure you also eat yougurt with plenty of lactobacillus. You need that and your stomach will heal if you eat Greek Yougurt made with all fresh ingredients nothing artificial. You need the friendly bacteria in yr intestines. Antibiotics kill them.

You need to watch that you eat a very nutritious diet and plenty of liquids along with yougurt or lactobacillus capsules. lots of fruits (Papaya does wonders) and apples as always. And ifyou like coffee, theres good news, it has more vitamin c than an orange. So have your cup of coffee!
Plus it fights fungus and other.

a word of advice....docs tend to give a lot more of antibiotics than what we actually need....but dont say that i said this. how do i know this? bc when i cut back on their antibiotics im ok but when they put me on their dosis sometimes even at hospital i get worse in many other things. so i go the middle road. niether too much nor too little. i watch my body size and take accordingly. of course the doc today can see how much exactly bacteria needs to be dealt with.
to me its too much every mwf to have antibiotics...but im not a doc! im just a nother patient.
and im different fro m you. so just read and keep the info as you go along so that one day if you need it you know the answer to something.

Of course I know that Levaquin is a different class of antibiotic than Zythromax. That is why I wrote "tell your doctor ....any other antibiotic that does not hurt your stomach..."
the doctor will know what antibiotic she needs! And based on that the options will be chosen based on the least side effect that would hurt the stomach.

I still think if you have food keeping yoru body busy, it helps for the body to accept the Zythromax better and avoid the nautious state.

So does Levaquin act as an anti inflammatory in the same way Azithromycin does? Azithromycin is not used as an antibiotic for cf, but as an anti inflammatory agent.

Side effects for Azithromycin can include stomach upsets.

As others have said, see if 250mg every day works better for you, as from my experience Azithromycin is definitely worth sticking with if you can.
