Thanks for the good info! Boiling water for sinus rinses does make alot of sense.

Sarah, I wash the Neilmed bottles in the dishwasher on sanicycle then hang them on a bottle rack to air dry. It does sometimes take most of the day for them to dry and since my daughter does them twice a day we have a 4 bottles in the rotation which helps always have clean/dry ones. Not sure if there is a better way to do it.

I did not mean to freak anyone out with this thread. I just want everyone to be as safe as possible. If you boil your water thoroughly, I think you'll be fine. Ask your doctor how long you should boil and what other methods can be used to avoid getting B. Cepacia. I personally heat to a roaring boil spring or purified water to kill all pathogens. BTW, I try to avoid the vapor from the boiling water just to be on the safe side just in cast the vapor contains pathogens.

what all has b cepacia in it? i would love to know! please inform me im still kinda new to things

thanks!</end quote>

Jenny,

Like Tom stated, B Cepacia can be found in many things such as

Shampoo
Lotion
Mouthwash
Distilled Water
Tap Water
Rotten Onions (B. Cepacia is what causes onion rot)

Here is a link to one of the latest recalls (mouthwash)

http://www.medpagetoday.com/Pr...tAlert/OTC/9377

I would recommend checking the internet periodically for B Cepacia recalls and check with your doctor and ask him the best way to avoid catching B Cepacia. I would ask him how you should clean your nebulizer parts and such.

Technically Cepacia & PA can be found anywhere. There were reports in 1999 (I think) of Cepacia contaminated bottled water (fruit flavored I think). There is always a risk yet at the same time.....how much of a risk is there?

Remember that for the general public its not an issue, but for us & others who are compromised it can be quite serious. Unfortunately with us being the "orphans" I dont think its at the top of the list for worries to the rest of the world. This is JMHO tho......

I drink bottled water (yes I resuse the bottles) & havent contracted Cepacia. Am I lucky? Is it minimal risk? Dont know, but I wont go through life trying to avoid ALL of the potential areas of risk. We would have to live in a bubble since it is everywhere!

Be cautious, but dont fret!

Hi Jazzys mom,

Just wanted to clear something up here... I wasnt getting paranoid or trying to put a bubble around myself b/c of what Prussian had said about Cepceia. Was simply stating that I "appreciated" the info on the subject
I'm learning a lot from all of you here on this forum and just think it's great to have other c.fer's tell of their experiences
Apologies if I came across this way lol Cause well that's NOT the case at all! lol..In fact...I don't give it much thought to be honest...cause, life's to short to worry about these things. Aye lol

Oh and I thought I'd update everyone on here about what happening with me.
I'm Having i.v therapy nxt week, for 2 weeks, leading right up to christmas (means my last day on i.vs is on christmas day). Feeling kinda stink about having it around this time...but hey on a positive note, at least I'll have a 'good summer' without feelin icky all the time. And best part about it, is at least i'm home for christmas and not suck in hospital. Well guys I will check in later and see how you all doing.

I wish you all have Merry Christmas & a Happy New year :)

Hugs, Shine :)
